Now that we've established that the first Assyrians converted to Judaism NOT Christianity...as there was no such thing in the century after Christ was butchered...for YOU...and that at its core Christianity is merely the belief that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah promised to come get those sheepshit herders out that miserable hillside some sadist "promised" them...whereas regular Jews believed Jesus wasn't him, that he was yet to come..and that's all. We also established that a Jew carpenter, or highhway robber of a grandpappy, David and the rest of that tribe, didn't have a whole lot to teach the people of BetNahrain till THEIR assholes blew up and they too could use "salvation". Also that there was kindness and thoughtfullnes and respect for law and cultures, languages, religions other than one's own...in other words human decency was long and well established among the people of BetNahrain when the Jews were still killing their own children...for profit, if not exactly for fun. The only new and different thing Judo-Christianity brought with it was this "salvation through murder of the Innocents" idea...that was something unheard of in BetNahrain and those of us who survived when the empire fell on our heads, who were now left unprotected and at the whim of whoever passed by, something the Hebrews had long been accustomed to, hence their desire for a Messiah or Savior...as in, "Get us the fuck out of here"...were attracted to a religion that "ONLY" asked of you a "symbolic" participation in ritual human sacrifice followed by a "symbolic" feast on the entrails and blood of the victim...after which you became a somewhat close approximation, or maybe just another "symbol", of what a decent human bean, who'd have shunned any such idea before, used to be. This was a new brand of cutthroat on the world's stage. After Jesus was slaughtered...for YOU...people believed he'd be coming back any day...after all he DID rise from the dead, didn't he? Would five Jew fishermen out of work...who couldn't catch fish without some Savior came and baited their lines, LIE? That was one of the things that made Christianity unpopular among governments in those hairy days. "Real" Christians really believed this crap...that the world was a vale of tears...that earthly material things were whoredoms and damnations...that our time on this disgusting planet, trapped in these putrid and lascivious bodies was just a stall until we got to where things were were pie and ice cream. It's hard for us to imagine today just how taken in by this stuff people were. On several ocassions around Egypt and Syria entire villages abandoned their farms and tromped out to the desert believing that "this was it". They sat under the sun and stars for weeks just waiting...till someone found a graceful way to get out of it and go back home. Governors complained that Christians wouldn't work on civic projects..."why improve this world when the next one is calling"...wouldn't serve in the military and were quickly becomming unfit for anything but dying. A civil society couldn't be run for long on that kind of mentality...Those were the "real" Christians among whom we're actually still proud to be numbered. And look at us. Then there was the problem with the Messianic Timetable: just when was the train leaving for heaven? If Jesus bounced back up after only three days..what the hell was taking him so long about followng through with the rest of the fairy tale? What was he waiting for? Did people have to become even MORE miserable? They felt they were miserable enough...wasn't that the reason he "came" in the first place? To "Save" them? Well, where was he? The Church, being one huge hornswaggle, stalled for time and managed to pull it off till the first millenium approached. For the same reason people went apeshit this time around too, there was a strong conviction that in the year 1000 Jesus would come riding down with his "hosts" and there'd be that final war Bush's people are hoping to start. Again people closed the shop...sold their posessions and sat around planning their vegetable gardens in heaven...by now most people had converted just because it was uncomfortable living among lunatics without joining in so everbody in the neighborhood now "believed" or had been killed, another "gift" of them Hebrews: rabid intolerance. Only he failed to show up again and this time people were a little more than pissed. Until then there'd been no concept of instant resurrection into heaven when you died. Instead you'd lay mouldering in your grave...what a GOD!...till everybody died or was murdered at which time there'd be a general opening of the graves and the world would smell as sweet as that kind of world would. People's patience was wearing thin so the Church made one of those shifty-eyed shifts it did so well and often under "God's guidance". From now on there would be no clash of Good and Evil on some final day...no heaven ON EARTH. Heaven was somewhere "up there" and you got to go to it the MINUTE you died, "No Waiting"..if you'd been good...which meant either rich or slovenly. Never mind the literature, that stuff always lies. Goodness and common decency...being kind to children especially, have nothing to do with Christianity...nothing at all. The only unique feature to it is this getting saved for killing an innocent offering. That's what's so disgusting about it...and what unhinges enough of its adherents that Christianity has been kicking ass for two millenia now and just got a boost from a "revival" of Christian morality...which we should know by now means: a. A lot more kindness in the world. b. A lot more tolerance in the world. c. A lot more peace in the world. d. A lot more killing in the world. note: Correct answer depends upon your religion. Anyone but a Christian will answer "d". A Christian will pick "a,b and c"...and pin "d" on the other guy...the guy he had to kill, unfortunately, for his "wrong believes". For a Con to be this good, it has to be REALLY good. --------------------- |
