We're in Denial when we believe that yawheh gave Moses the Ten commandments, and that they aren't an abridged version of our King Hammurabi. We're in Denial when we believe that it was Noah who collected two of every kind and built an ark, and this tall tale wasn't taken from the epic of Gilgamesh. We're in Denial when we believe that the story of Job preceded the Akkadian poem , I Will Praise the Lord of Wisdom (Ludlul bel nemeqi) which deals with the problem of the righteous sufferer, and in this resembles the Book of Job. We're in Denial when the following verses are read out in our churches, in lishana atiqua of course, our priests aren't THAT stupid; Psalm 137: 8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. 9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. We're in Denial when we claim that we DON'T follow the Old Testament but then turn around and brag about how we're going to take great pride in commemorating Baoota D'Ninwaye. A tale in which we "heathen" are used as a lesson for Yawheh's little darlings, the Jews. And we're in Denial when we claim that all these combined actions are our display of loyalty to our Assyrian heritage. Let's at least stop living in Denial. P.S. Denial is not a river in Egypt. --------------------- |
