The "home" land.... [ Beth Suryoyo Assyrian (Othuroyo) Forum ] Written by MAJIDI on 01 Jan 2001 15:22:29: Greetings all, I am still in Egypt and will be home soon, have a lot of material on what is going on here (Mid East in general) and promise to write in greater depth when I get home in a couple of weeks.... For those that dn't know me, I have been travelling around the Mid East for 3 months now.... Just one thing I just needed to share with you, as an Australian "western" born Assyrian/ Middle Easterner - is the complete lack of cultural awareness I have and how lacking "we" (ie the first generations of youth in the western world) are in not ONLY Assyriansim, but Arabism. As people from the Arab world we must work hard to respect our Arab brothers and ESPECIALLY sisters to find a sense of common ground and unity amongst not only the Arab world, but the whole world..... All lost me now? Sorry if I am rambling, but New Years has a been a LOOOOOOONG night (still awake), and yet one of the closest to my soul, because I shared it with my REAL brothers, who have accepted me as an Australian born Christian with a Middle Easternm background....a sense of community I have not even felt with my Assyrian/ Suryoyo/ Chaldean "family"..... The time has come for a deeper sense of reverence. In this New Year, please discard all of your hesitations and deepest fears. No more SECRETS amongst Assyrians..... Love ALL humanity as equally as you do your own self. But most importantly, STOP this hatred breeding and cyclical revenge (did anyone out there ever read my recommendation for "The Warrior's Honour" by Michael Ignatieff?).....do not be afraid, it is non-fiction.... Anyways, just stay to true to your hearts people, Love Always, Majidi :-)) PS. MAKE this a Happy New Year! - - - - Re: The "home" land.... We have far more in common as a culture, with our people of the Near and Middle East than we do with those in the West whose religion we happen to share. The sooner we stop brandishing religion as some sort of weapon or crowbar, and ask instead that we be allowed to develop our heritage and culture, the sooner will we be allowed to join the ruling classes there as grown-ups. I look forward to hearing about your travels. Fred - - - - Re: The "home" land.... [ Beth Suryoyo Assyrian (Othuroyo) Forum ] Written by wm warda on 01 Jan 2001 19:23:07: As an answer to: Re: The written by parhad on 01 Jan 2001 17:10:31: As they say "it is a nice place to visit but I do not want to live there". It is not us who are brandishing the religion weapon. It is the Moslems extremists who are often in control who do it. We have never massacred , plundered, taken into slavery and forced moslems in christianity as moslems have often treated us and have tired to force us into Islam. As they say the music of the drum is sweeter when heard from far away. It is easy to be fooled by the superficiality with which one is treated in these lands as an American or Australian. But one has to live there to really realize what is going on. In the Moslem worlds there are the moderates and there are the extremists who are in power or are trying to grab power and impose their oppressive rules on Moslems and none Moslems alike. THey often intimidate the moderates into submission. It was in this very Egypt where the so called "our Arab brothers" attacked a christian village just a year or so ago on the new year and killed 23 people and injured others. In another instance some christians were crucified. Just because Majidi or Parhad were not there it does not make it right. It is in this Egypt where christians are ridiculed and beaten up if they are wearing a cross. In sudan the christians are being killed, starved to death and taken as slaves by their Arab Brothers because of their religion. We know what has happened and continue to happen in Algeria, in Afghanistan, and other countries of the Middle East. please don't fool yourselves. One has to see both the good and the bad and not wash away one with the other. For a Christian living in Egypt whose daughter has been abducted and forced into Islam, his son will be beaten up if he wears a cross around his neck, his business will be forced into bankruptcy by the Moslem extremists expecting pay offs and has no idea when his christian neighborhood will be attacked for the slightest of excuses life in Egypt is far from good. Living in the west usually leads to an insanity of being unable to distinguish between the good from the bad or making a definate jusdgement, there are no right or wrong per say everything is conditional. There is always a simle minded hope that conflicts can be easily solved by peaceful means but such is not the case in the Middle east nor it is the way Islam teaches its followers. ( I suggest that those who disagree with me read the Koran itself first. there are several English translations of it.) Clinton for example is trying to bring peace between the Israelites and Palestinians but any peace attempt is doomed to die unless the jews are entirely removed from Israel or brought into submission and driven into the Sea as the palestinians and their supporters like to say. Peace otherwise will never happen because this is not a war for land. As far as the Moslem world is concerned It is a religious war between a Moslem brother and infidels where the infidel has the upper hand and is ruling a Moslem people and is living on the God given Arab land. That is why the Moslem world is outraged with the Palestianian situation but has no symphathy at all for other people oppressed by their Moslem brothers. The only Middle eastern country where power was shared between Moslems and Christians was Lebanon. With the help of the Saudi Arabian Money and the military help form the Palestinians, Iran, Iraq, and Syria the Christians were forced into submission and reduced into 2nd rate citizens . Hundreds of thousands of christians have since left Lebanon . Excusing such injustices because one has not experienced them personally ecourages such practices and contributes to their continuity. To be fair one has to praise the good but never underestamate the danger which often lurks underneat. wm warda - - - SIR, Go back through your letter and notice that you keep refering to "Christians" being abused. You say nothing about how Assyrians are treated AS Assyrians. But of course you can't find one who hasn't converted. If the Moslems dislike the Christians it is in no small part due to all the villages, slaves, murders, pillage etc, which the Christians visited upon them, in the name of Jesus for centuries. I'd like to stop catching hell for what Christians did to Moselem years ago. As to the Middle East, I was born there, spent time in Iraq, Iran and Kuwait. I've gone to school there, been beaten up and assaulted there and, once I got little education, realized that the difference between stupid Moslems and stupid Christians isn't worth a damn. It will take years to erase the hatred built up, and it's only getting worse. I also challenge anyone to convince anyone that America wants peace in the Middle east, or any of the places it's shedding tears over now. Stop flaunting your religion. You're no worse than the Moslem "moderates" who give rise to the fundamentalists through their constant and unremitting cant. It would be best for all of us to stop arguing and killing over things we can't prove but only believe...and usually just because we were born and grew up that way. The whole world is suffering from this god business for it's a great thing to hide you greed and petty jealousy behind. Whate else allowes people to be so sanctimonious while committing out and out crimes and outrages against common decency and sense. You're tickled pink over your own fatith, you love it and stroke it and pet all it's quaint follies. Well of course you do, IT's YOURS. BUT SO DOES THE OTHER GUY. And Judaism, Christianity and Islam, being children of one parent, have a raging jealousy which has mangled more people over the centuries than is worth any of the benefits they've brought. Each of them is like the doctor who brings the disease to infect you with in the first place...then offers you his cure for it. When you say "we have never massacred etc"..who is the "we". Do you mean we as Assyrians, or we as Christians. It's true that as Assyrians we never massacred Moslems...there weren't any then. We as Christian Assyrians didn't massacre because we were woefully outnumbered. If a small group of Moslems existed in a sea of Christians, AND those Moslems were calling on their fellow Moslems to attack the Christian Assyrianss, starve and kill them , you bet Assyrian Christians would wipe them out. Jews and Christians have lived in surprising harmony in he old days with Islam...with enlightened Islam, which there was plenty of. Often Christians of Hungary looked at envy to Moslem rule, as others did, because the Moslems were far more tolerant...they were the gentlemen of their day. The Mongol invasion devastated Islam and they never recovered. Too often, UP TO THE PRESENT, our Assyrian Christians have longed for and helped the Christian West in its attempts to seize the resources and trade routes of Moslem lands. What would America do to traitors, or England. And the West has dumped us each time to the mercy of our neighbors and co-countrymen who were mad as hell...Not because we are Assyrian, but because as CHRISTIANS we betrayed their trust. The West has used our religion against us as well, building up our hopes and leaving us flat. Do you really think the white man distinguishes between us and dirty Arabs. Of course he doesn't. He just lets us think it. If push ever came to shove in this ountry, you'd see just how assimilated you REALLY are. Final note: no one here wants the jews removed or forced into the sea...they're doing just fine where they are, that's why they were put there...remember the Assyrian Levies and the dirty work they did for the British in Iraq. - - - - Parhad: It is obvious that you only claim to be Assyrian but in heart you are not. Islam did not exist in most of the Middle East Before 7th century B.C. and for may centuries afterward Christians were a majority but there are no historical records showing that Chrisitan Assryians ever massacred Moslems even when Christians were a majority. In fact it was the christian Assyrians who contributed to the Arab civilization by translating most of the known scientific and phylosphical books into Arabic during the first few centuries of the Moselm rule. Christians of the Middle East are not responsible for the wars between Moslems and western countries whose christianity had nothing to do with that of the Assyrians or Armenains. The Moslem armies from Saudi Arabia fought their way into the lands known today as Syria, Iraq, jordan, Lebanon, Phalistaine, Israel, Egypt, Algeria, Lybia, Sudan, Yaman,Spain and other places. The Moslem Turks elslave the Romans, the Greeks, The sloves, the Serbs and many other christian countries in the region. One can only judge a people by what they have done and not by what one thinks (often incorectly) they would have done in this or that situation. You have no historical knowledge whatsoever therefore are not qulified to pretend that you do. What ever you have written so far has been contrary to the historical facts and the interest of your own people. Often You seem to be sheding crocodile tears for the Assyrians but your solutions to their problems will only cause their doom. Parahd: the more you write the better John Nimroud, Peter and others you have criticized look. You seem like a person who has no conviction what so ever and will do and say any thing for questionable reasons. wm warda --------------------- Eunuch (aka Jeff) |
