...this is an Epilogue from "The Armenians, Assyrians, & Kurds: Three Nations, One Fate?" by Burchard Brentjes. I apologize in advance for any typos. There will be no commentary, as this speaks for itself.

" The fate of the three nations narrated was just a small example of the main trend of this century. It was told for the future generations, so that they may be aware of the ways of the rich and powerful. Because history is the consequence of the past and the present which determines the future. The terror of the majority against the minority shall be the culture of the next century, or maybe even the next millenium. It will be a time of bloodshed, fear and terror which will be camouflaged with the slogans of democracy, freedom and human rights. Power will rule as it did in the millenia before. The interests of the minorities will be overlooked as the big powers fight for money and influence. The basic human nature does not change. It was the same in the past, it is the same in the present and will remain so in the future. "

Just before the Epilogue, at the end of the book, the following is written:

" The Clinton administration did not utter a single word about the brutality against the Kurds. The war against Saddam was a performance for the gillible American public, the message of which was 'Clintin is in the White House and all is well with the world'. Which was partially true because the contest was for the control of the oil deposits, and that were safely inthe hands of the western powers. For the strategic planners of Washington the extermination of a few thousand tribals was really not worth loosing [sic] their sleep on. The mission was accomplished, the rest be damned. They had used Saddam and the regime in Teheran the way they had wanted during the seven year war [I'm assuming he is referring to the Iran-Iraq war?]. That was not the last time, and this would not be the last time either. The American people had the 'right to protect their strategic interests'. The means were unimportant, the ends were all that mattered.

The American intervention did not weaken Saddam Hussain, rather it made his position comfortable. They gave him a chance to finish the Shi'ites in the South and the Kurds in the North. The Americans wanted a weak but united Iraq because they did not want a Shi'ite state in the South to increase the influence of Iran nor did they want a Kurdish state in the north as that would spoil the equilibrium of the region. The Kurds were played one agains [sic] the other. Today they are supporting Mas'ud Barzani, tomorrow he will again be decieved. And this will not be the first time, nor the last.

No foreign power is interested in rescuing any of these three nations [referring to the Armenians, Assyrians, and Kurds]. The only thing that is important and on which lies their fate is the availability of the natural resources in the Middle East - petrol, gas, and uranium which are much more useful to the powerful nations as compared to the lives of a people fighting for their fundamental rights, although many of these [powerful] nations will never hesitate to use the 'problem of human rights' if it serves their purpose in other parts of the world.

The two Kurdish forces, the PUK and the PDK have accepted the Turks as arbitrators and representatives of the USA in the area. This is a realistic view, because nothing will be done in the Middle East without the American consent. The Americans may be interested to integrate the Kurds in a 'Pax Americana' int eh region, only if the Kurds do not harm their interests in the Middle East. They will never allow a Kurdish state, and the Kurds cannot hope to fight the Turks with the USA as their ally. They need to find a new strategy as their armed struggle seems to be an exercise in futility. The only chance is to generate an international debate on the issue and a consensus which should lead to mass awareness of the problem of the people. Armed struggle is not the solution to the problem. In fact, the very concept is self defeating and leads to varied reaction from various people. The United Nation[s] is a conglomerate of rich nations whether European, Asian, American, or South American, and these nations do not have the time or the inclination to address the problem of these people who are refugees in their own land. They are all equally respondible for the fate of the 'three nations' - the fate of death, destruction, terror, and misery - the victims of the greed[y] and rich nations of the world. "

At this time I will cut-and-paste the epilogue below, so that you can read it again and let it really sink in:

" The fate of the three nations narrated was just a small example of the main trend of this century. It was told for the future generations, so that they may be aware of the ways of the rich and powerful. Because history is the consequence of the past and the present which determines the future. The terror of the majority against the minority shall be the culture of the next century, or maybe even the next millenium. The interests of the minorities will be overlooked as the big powers fight for money and influence. The basic human nature does not change. It was the same in the past, it is the same in the present and will remain so in the future. "
