Wm the Dm speaks up. This is the guy I told to eat a medium sized whale a day...cause fish is good brain food...my man Clemens came up with it, but I thought it good to broaden that dimwit a bit more. You notice he presupposes that a "debate" must mean ahead of time that I agree to lose. That if I "refuse to see the TRUE light"..which shines on the rest of us from Wm and nohere else...I must not know "history". Don't hold your breath for Pharhad to be logical or tone down his rhetoric. He has been arguing this issue for years now and no amount of logic and reason has convinced him otherwise.

It is true that a segment of our people are alienated with our clergies and christianity because they belive the two are responsible for the tragic situation we find ourselves in. These people have very littel knowledge of history and about the situation of the Assyrians before christianity. They fail to relaize that without christianity our people whould have converted to Zoroastrianism and assimilated into the Persian nation. Persians exercised a systematic effort to supress other religions. The only thing which frustated their drive was christianity.

...That nonsense again. Hereīs history for you...with Christianity our people are becomming assimilated into the West AND getting kicked out of Bethanrain. Do you think it might be better to let children live and not care what language they speak or who they pray to...or is killing them required if you are to be true to god? You people arenīt exactly raising the roofon any Assyrian heritage in the West...all you do is continue to go down on Jesus...what Assyrians are you talking about? An Assyrian can be any religion he or she wants to...speak any language he or she wants to...what they CANīT do is pay other Christians and help them to kill the people of BetNahrain...72,000 Assyrian children...Christian Assyrian children were starved to death along with the other Assyrian children who happened not to be Christian any longer...what are you talking about?

The reality is that there was little Assyrian nationalism left before christianity. The problem with the ancient Assyrian/Babylonian religion was that every city had its own supreme god.For example in Harran it was Sin, In Ashur, Ashur, In Arabil Ishtar, In Nineveh it was Ishtar of Nineveh, in Babylon was Marduk, in Borsipa was Nebu and so fort.

All these cities and gods were united by the central government as one nation and one religion but after the fall of the central government each city became independant of others.

...right...like Christianity broke into a thousand fragments each one insisting THEY had it right and then went to war with their neighbors and family members and then the countries surrounding them and then sailed the seven seas in search of other Christians and Christian countries and anyone else they could rob and kill and convert to the TRUTH. Are you crazy too?

This made it impossible for the Assyrians to rise again and establish their own soverignty. One can compare the situation to the present day. For example the majority of the members of the Chaldeans Church claim that they are not Assyrians because their religion is called Chaldean therefore they are Chaldeans. A majority of the Syiran Orthodox church members claim that they are Arameans because one of their patriarchs told them so.

...Oh give it a rest with your Chaldean is a chair and not a sofa bullshit will you! You have no papers, no proof, not a goddamn thing to prove you are Assyrian...you donīt need it and neither do THEY! Shove your Patriarch up your Pope.

The Harranians are a good example. Even though Harran had been part of Assyria for a thousand year and it was the last Assyrian capital after the fall of Nineveh its inhabitants were content to call themselves Harranians and worship their supreme god Sin. The same is true about other Assyrian cities.

Harranians did not convert to christianity they continued to worship their supreme deity. Because their religion was not mentioned in Koran as acceptable they were forced first to change their name to Sabbians which is mentioned in Koran and they were forced to convert to Islam. (Harranian Sabbians should not be confused with today's Sabbians in southern Iraq). As a result Harranians no longer exist.

...and Christians forced Jews to convert to Christianity then set up the Inquisition to hound them to death because they "suspected" their conversions were insincere...like the emperor Heraclitus ordered all Jews in his lands and elsewhere to convert or be killed...and he killed them all...Islam is another offshoot of that same madman Abraham...and we sent him packing long ago. Islam is STILL far more tolerant than Christianity...the Romans were the only real Christians of their day...theyīre the ones who saved the franchise and built it up and they murdered every heretic they could lay their hands on and hired a Pope to decide who god wanted them to kill...you are such a cute muggins...wid you wittle wistowy boofs.

The idea that if Assyrians had not accepted christianity they would have survived as a united people and would be still worshiping their ancient religion and would have been calling themselves Assyrians is proposterous.

...they didnīt survive anyway...they arenīt united, certainly not under Christ or through him...what are Assyrians doing in the United States besides carrying on their fragmentation, their assimilation and their dividing among an ever increasing array of sub-Christians and sub-sub Christians and rub-a-dub-dub Christians? The idea that Assryians would be better off converting to Islam or that Arabs will abandon their Arabic heritage and will identify themselves as Assyrians and we will all live happily ever after is nothing short of insanity.

All weīre saying is that we shouldnīt tear that region apart because Abaraham got a wild hair up his arse and the Romans knew a good thing when they killed Christ. We can not bet our future on ideas from people who despite historical evidences are not willing to accept the fact that what they are promoting will totally wipe out our people by having them assimilated in other cultures. We can not afford to indulge in social experimentatins which will insure our doom.

I find these people more detremental to the Assyrians cause than the Christian clergies whom they criticise. By promoting other religious ideas they are acturally further dividing our people along religious lines.

...you Christians are the ones dividing us...and have been since you ran after a Jew...and when the missionaries came with warm pillows you all switched over to whomever could offer you an even better deal...more goodies...like Abgar, that other Putz who determined his religious beliefs by whomever could cure him of the Clapp. Honestly!

It is true that we have plenty of problems but it is insane to jump from the frying pan into the fire. As a proverb says "be carefu l of what you wish for, because you may actually get it."

There are far better ways to impower Assyrians than to sacrifice their future on naive ideas.
I advise you to not idulge in arguing with these people. Le them be.
