Look, brother, this is interesting... A painting of Archangel Michael Lotto, Lorenzo (1480-1557 Venezia): "L'arcangelo Michele caccia Lucifero" 1555-1556 Palazzo apostolico, Loreto (Ancona) Michael doesn't even seem to be striking. While his sword held high he extends another arm out to Lucifer, almost as if helping him up. This dialectic is also expressed in the Italian title of the painting: "L'arcangelo Michele caccia Lucifero" The italian verb "cacciare" means very often "chase, drive, push" but it has ALSO the meaning of "cavar fuori" = "to help/draw out". --------------------- |
