If one tries to look dispassionately at Armenian and other Christian claims of deliberate Genocide...a willfull plan to exterminate all Christians within the Ottoman Empire just because, "That's the way those evil Turkish Muslims and all Muslims are"...one has to lay the entire scene out and not just lift one episode. In the first place no people are inherently evil and prone to nastiness any more than other's are. And if you step back far enough to see what else was going on and what led up to the events of the First World War and also cast about to examine what the people who make these acusations have themselves been guilty of...you can't help but see us humans as one big family behaving badly. And I maintain that's the only real way to view us all if peace and justice is really what you hope for rather than revenge and even more violence...but the kind YOU win. Let's not forget that Turkey didn't do anything to anybody to bring on the First World War except what Iraq did to bring about its woes...have petroleum. The West desperately needed oil to run the engines of the Industrial Revolution and the MidEast, specifically the lands controlled by the Ottomans for nearly 400 years...quite a bit longer than the time the United States had been in existence since it stole its own land and pretty well wiped out the Native population...had plenty of it. The First World War took place between 1914-18. The forced march of the last contingent of fleeing Native Americans caught by the United States Army happened around 1894...when whatever tribes could be rounded up were marched through the winter with hardly any clothing or food till they nearly all starved to death, well before the Turks would be accused of such a thing...at a place called Wounded Knee, South Dakota, I believe...as you can read in Dee Brown's excellent and heartbreaking book, "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee". The First World War occured only 20 years after Wounded Knee, barely one generation. The United States had been hounding the Native population for decades committing incredible atrocities against this also totally innocent People. They certainly were in no danger of attack from any Apache or Cheyene Nation anywhere...the Native population had long since been rendered harmless, yet it too was a "policy" decision. By contrast the Ottomans were up against the combined might of the greatest industrialized nations of their day...England, France, Italy and the United States. The Germans were on their side but only for the petroleum they would come back for barely another generaton later...besides which what do you say about a Christian nation allying itself with Muslims to kill Chiristians? And at that the Turks were forced to accept the Germans as allies just to even the score a bit. Europe made no secret of its plans...the only justification being given for a war that would kill hundreds of thousands of Turks, who had also done nothing to harm anyone, certainly not the Europeans...was that Turkey was a "sick man" and therefore was fair game for whoever wanted to take a shot at it. You have to admit, from a Turks point of view, this was an alarming state of affairs. And of course these were all Christian nations calling on their mercifull god almighty, the Prince of Peace, to bless this enterprise which would lead ultimately to their killing millions of each other's Christians...their separate priests blessing each Christian army as it went out to kill another Christian army...raping and pillaging fellow Christians as they went along. This, seen from the other side of the fence, might give Turks and Muslims cause to view their own Christian populations with some trepidation. For if Christian could go to war against fellow Christian on such flimsy grounds as brought on the First World War with its milions upon millions of dead and wounded...what might Christians NOT do to Muslims? WeŽd have to wait a few more generations to find out that Christians would starve to death and deny medicine to 500,000 murdered Iraqi children who also never hurt anyone...and go Christmas shopping the next day. All it would take would be a few subversive acts...the takeover of the national bank in Istanbul too...as well as other well aimed provocatons by Christians within Turkey who believed what they were being told by the Brits about a homeland etc. and all of a sudden the Turks could feel there was a large Fifth Column within their borders and ON their borders who might just work for the "salvation" of Turkey by the return of those lands "to Christ". Had the Europeans minded their own business and not attacked Turkey, I doubt the Christians would have been bothered any more than any Blacks were in the deep south in America at that same time...actually there were far more lynchings and unprovoked attacks against Black Americans who were also Christians and also innocent than there ever were aginst Christians in Turkey, minus the unprovoked attack against the Turks which brought on the miseries suffered by the Christian population and NOT inherent Muslim perfidy...lasting well into the 40's. If you aren't a partizan of any faction but have the best interests of the Human Race as well as this planet of ours at heart...you won't add fuel to the flames of hatred and ignorance...which we can see are growing at a furious rate...at about the same rate a renewed interest in God is spreading. These are parlous times indeed. Could Muslims be the next target in Christian gunsights? They already decimated the Jews...and added insult to injury by convincing us all that the Jews are "very powerful and run things"...and then sending them to live in the midst of angry Muslims so the two could kill each other off. And now we want to wipe out Islam. The Church Militant is at it again. I swear pulling its fangs and clipping its nails isn't enough...you have to tax the fuckers. --------------------- |
