When in World War I and II class, we spoke in great detail about the mistakes and the correct decisions made in both wars by the US, including the pros and cons of direct US occupation of Germany and Japan. What struck me as strange was how the class was comparing this invasion of Iraq and the subsequent occupation to world war II's occupation of Germany and Japan. So, I raised my hand and told the teacher and the class that it would be far more prudent to compare the US occupation of Vietnam to the current debacle... and everybody was sort of quiet... nobody knew what to say.
