by the way, nothing is anyone`s "fault"...not until they know better...and have the chance to change things. In the 50s there was incredible social pressure and legal as well to all conform and live life the way the Repubs and almost everyone else said it should be lived...then too people thought about financial security and not much else. But kids started going out of their skulls and they rebelled a bit and then some more...happens all the time...though the Man knows how to co-opt most movements... But people can definitely be MADE to worry more and care less about larger issues...like as long as you can put food on the table from your lumber mill job, who cares if the forest will be gone and you`ll just be out of a job down the road anyway...and out of shade, trees, forests, streams and the animals that go with them...and then what have you done...really? Except ruin your children`s future..the same children you told yourself you had to chop down all those tres in order to GIVE a future to. When I graduated high school in 65 you could get a job, pumping gas even and still get a studio apartment for yourself and have money left over to eat...even buy a car and a stereo...today in many cities high school teachers have to double and triple up to have a home or apartment to live in. Who`s getting all the extra dough the teachers are no longer getting? And the side benefit to the people geting richer is that there`s social "stability"...no one has time or energy to listen to HotHeads and trouble makers...all they want to do is get from paycheck to paycheck...when I got out you could take your time...travel and work in other cities...bum around and always know you could get a job later without havng to explain where you were the two or three years your peers were already at work on their resumes and IRAs and retirement plans...makes you look like a flake or troubled mind if you want to live a little. --------------------- |
