Your bump. I just don't think money for her eyes is enough...or for her children. We Assyrians don't act, we REact. Among us our "best" are waiting by the phone to field a heart-wrenching disaster till you'd think the whole point is to benefit by the suffering of our own people.

Jackie held an enthusiastic drive here to gather old shoes and clothing, put them in an enormous container and ship them to Georgia...where they have tons and tons of old shoes already. Jackie knows her stuff. She knows she can barely get any money out of the community she doesn't "generously" and publicly outbid herself. The woman had to step aside as president and since then her club has been leader-less because no one wants to be compared to her...that's how "effective" she is at promoting herself. She basically killed her club with kindness.

Father Benny doesn't need shoes and pants in Georgia. American money would do the most good. The people need teeth and medicine and chemotherapy. Dealing with a shit-load full of old clothes from America is more a headache than a help. But Jackie knows her stuff...she knows people here have garages and storage spaces bursting with crap they just can't flush from their lives...and so she basically provides a place to dump them and feel "good about yourself too"...as all her work on "our" behalf is predicated on the same principle.

To all of San Jose it will LOOK like Jackie has done "a lot". That container will be stuffed with old sweaters and pants and blouses and coats and socks...it will FEEL wonderful and it will indeed do some good over there...but nowhere near to the good it does Jackie's Jackie over here. She's just smart enough to be stupid.

I'm sure she'll send something to Majdolin...and let us all know somehow. The time to have done something for Majdolin was before we not only gave Bush carte blanche...but held rallies and meeting in which he BEGGED him to go bomb Majdolin and kill her children...and we practically did.

So...send some money by all means. But you know what? Had she been luckier and we too...she would have conviently died and there'd be nothing left of her to tug at what we like to call our Christian conscience OR love of Assyria.

The eyes of Majdolin are gone...but they burn through us all the hotter because she was left alive. Admit it.
