I think this is the usual assumption about Jeff and I. People have been trying for two years to make either one or both of us we feel we have some sort of sick worship society going...master/guru and pupil. It's nonsense of course and usually comes from people who themselves wish they could influence someone the way they think I influence or mentor or lead by the nose our own Jeff Atto.

Jeff's his own man...that's why I admire him. It's impossible to kiss my ass...the line is too long to even get close. I remember having the same sort of fascination with one or two teachers...befriending them...drinking with them...having a crush on their wives...enjoying their friendship and the status I felt I achieved by being liked in return. But I was my own man too...all the time, that was why they invited me in...just wanted to see what made that person tick...and when I do that, I get up close. Even wound up having a delightful affair with the delightful wife of my college prof...and not because I really wanted to bed him...I knew damn well who was interested in whom.

It's just Jeff's bad luck we have people who resent what they perceive as some special bond between us that locks them out. They're the ones who want desperately to be liked. We like to challenge each other...we just don't do it in public. Jeff is a fascinating and unusual kind of person...one you don't come across every day. It's an established part of the relationship that we have to tell each other to fuck off regularly...whether we mean it just then or not.

But that's not the point. We are a mean-spirited, highly envious and jealous people...and those of us who don't get what we think we deserve or don't attain some position we think should be ours by right, try to bring other's down a notch...if we can't run but hobble all over the place then we're going to try to cripple everyone else. I understand...it's okay.
