..I read along...getting it all, though I think the writer is a bit too blase about America`s power to crush softly...and with your full approval...but still his point is a good one...and then I got to the the first line in the final paragraph...."The new man`s talent..." and came to an abrupt halt...I realized there`s one thing constant here he hasn`t challenged...even though it may seem a trifle, but in this article especially and just to show he too is a part of it...he should have included women. >The new man's talent is the ability to overcome paralysis of the many conflicting selves by finding and inventing new connections between them. He holds opposed ideas in his head without going crazy. He resists the temptation to withdraw into a small shell of separatism and fundamentalism and xenophobia. He learns instead to hear others and respect differences and, in the process, transcends paradox. He sees the world with its many dimensions simultaneously. Geography for him may be memory and logistics, but it's no longer destiny. ...and neither should biology be destiny any longer... ...that first sentence challenges the "new man" to not stay the same old one. People make light of the prevaling use of "he" to cover "she" as well...men say, " you KNOW I mean you too honey". All they have to do is be subjected to any converstaion in which "she" is used to cover "he" as well..and every time someone uses a "she" where a "he" used to mean everybody...HE will feel it grate against his ears. --------------------- |
