Farid, >Never mind the god of the universe...if I was walking by Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan one day and on crossing the street found myself in the path of a speeding taxi cab filled with Sin, all the seven deadly ones to be exact...and at that very moment, the president and CEO of Atlantic Records came flying down from the suite of offices he maintains and threw himself in front of the taxi and got killed "for me"...I don't know about you but I'd be "humbled" at how much I was worth. Only that ain't humility. I'd walk away with a renewed spring in my step, pleased beyod measure that I was worth it...that a common ordinary person didn't see my value enough to throw him or herself in front of the cab...that it took a very busy and otherwise important man to see how important I AM...so much so that sacrifing his life for me was his pleasure. That's certainly part of it...good point. But we've gone over all of this before. That God has shown such unrequired and abundant love to the world DOES put a spring in the step. Why shouldn't it? What's wrong with feeling loved? More importantly, how does that make ANYONE a bad person? Who turns out crueller: the kids whose parents spent time with in teaching and example - the ones made to feel important in their parents' lives - or those abandoned or ignored? Don't tell me you never heard of "Generation X." And YES, we are children compared to God who created us. Humility isn't about self-degradation. It's about knowing yourself fully - good points and bad, worth and worthlessness, beloved creature of God's image and sinner begging for grace. Your tv pal, Andy --------------------- |
