During the 2nd crusade the magnificent Saladin a Muslim warrior and founder of the Ayyubid dynasty and his army, one-third of whom were Chrisitian-Assyrians, declared war on the murderous and cruel crusaders. Saladin and his Assyrian-Christian and Assyrian-Muslim army was victorious at Hattin, recaptured Jerusalem, and drove the Crusaders back to the coast. Known as the gentlemen of the Middle East Saladin became famous for his chivalry and conduct. Excuse the history lesson it's just I couldn't help but make a striking comparison of the Assyrian-Muslims of Iraq today with Saladin; "When they saw that we were frightened and that we really (were) doing our best to explain ourselves and what we were doing in Fallujah, they said to us 'Look, don't worry too much. We are Muslims and we can't hurt you. We are not violent and we won't hurt you and we won't touch you'." --------------------- |
