During WW2 the German defeat at Stalingrad was responsible for turning the tide of the German invasion. During the battle for Stalingrad the Italian and Hungarians allies of the Germans were used to guard the German flank against Russian counterattacks. They were knocked out and Von Paulus's infamous 6th army was surrounded and annihilated losing over 260,000 troops, 95,000 of whom were taken as POWs. A new age and a new war. In today's new so-called "war on terror," Al Quaeda have managed to deliver a strategic master-stroke that has trageted the Spanish government responsible for supporting the US invasion. The Spanish have been TKOed. And unfortunately the other US allies in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq are bracing for their turn. The US are meanwhile apprehensive, "This was a big defeat for us," a Pentagon official said. "Al Qaeda caused a regime change better than we did in Baghdad. No cost." In October a voice on a taped message, broadcast on Al Jazeera, attributed to bin Laden stated, "We reserve the right to respond at the appropriate time and place against all the countries participating in this unjust war [in Iraq], particularly Britain, Spain, Australia, Poland, Japan and Italy." With the Australian elections predicted around October, US elections to follow in November and British elections early 2005, Australia naturally emerges as the next target on Al Quaeda's strategic list. In fact Australia has already lost many innocent civilians during the Bali bombing, including an Assyrian girl from Sydney. If Al Quaeda uses this strategy to target innocent Australian civilians the Liberal-led government will be responsible for the first attack on Australian soil since the Japanese bombing of Darwin in WW2. John Howards's disgraceful government will be replaced by the electorate, the majority of whom were against the illegal invasion to begin with, leaving a new Labor government which also promises to pull out Australian troops from Iraq. This snowballing effect may then leave Bush's position under pressure and severely exposed hopefully leading to an election loss in November. With Aznar, Howard and Bush TKOed Blair doesn't stand a chance in next year's elections. I find it ironic how the so-called, "coalition of the willing" may themselves be removed from government as a result of their illegal removal of Saddam and his government. --------------------- |
