When you ask them: "Why are we Catholic but the kids at school are Jewish?" And they respond with: "Son, the reason you are Catholic is because you were raised Catholic. The reason we (parents) are Catholic is because our parents raised us to be Catholic. We could have just as easily been a member of any other religion, or no religion at all." They didn't lie to me. They told me the truth...and...as they say...the truth shall set you free. Some might say that my parents aren't "real" Christians because their response should have been that "GOD has chosen us to follow his path"...but I disagree...they are as authentic as they come...the meek and pious kind who don't kill and rarely "sin"...and they nag me every chance they get... tell me that they wish I would just "go to church"...and I tell them sorry, I can't... and then I say "pray for me" as I walk away chuckling to myself. --------------------- |
