My sister nearly had a nervous breakdown today at the age of 14. She was reading up on the archaic rules and regulations of the Roman Catholic Church. She was asking me about heaven, hell and purgatory. I gave her the standard church versions of the definitions which resulted in a slew of common sense questions many Christians (Assyrians in particular) should be asking themselves: Who created these rules? Are they part of someone's imagination or are they based on the Bible? Is the Bible true? What if a person doesn't get married and doesn't become a priest? Are they still going to heaven? How long must you stay in purgatory before you go to heaven? After I told her that becoming a nun isn't considered a holy order like the entering the priesthood or becoming a monk are, she asked what would happen to unwed women? Do they ever reach heaven? And if we have to play under these rules, WHY isn't becoming a nun a holy order?! Then I gave her the uncensored answers to those questions. She could not understand how millions of people can believe all that has been fed to them on cross and nails. --------------------- |
