If you are male, you get one X chromosome from your mother & one Y chromosome from your father. If you are female, you get an X chromosome from each parent. To test for paternal lineage, scientists use markers from the Y chromosome. To test for general lineage, there are a variety of genes on other chromosomes one can look at. This is called haplotype analysis. Scientists can also look at maternal lineage through mitochondrial DNA tests. --------------------- |
