Something was always fishy about the takeover of the US embassy and the hostages held for almost two years by Iranian clerics. We know the US kept the Shah in power as long as he too was obedient...so it's a safe bet a bunch of clerics didn't have the might to remove an American puppet when he cut his own strings. Looking back on it, discord and warfare and turmoil in the MidEast has been a windfall profit of immense proportions for a few companies..the American citizen still gets gouged...as he and she always do...but a few people reap immense profits and profits is what they kill children for. I don't think presidents run much of anything...I don't think we really know who makes decisions or how they are made. Sometimes, especially when you have an idiot such as this one who clearly has others pulling his own strings you just have to wonder who tells them all what to do. And when you have an unpopular but basically decent president like Carter in office...or even a bright and well loved one like Kennedy...you get the feeling those with the real power trip, trick and manipulate them into making fatal blunders...so they'll be removed from office one way...or the other. After hemming and hawing over what to do..Carter, of all people, ordered (?) a surprise helicopter raid into Iran to free the hostages...huh? Either someone watches too many movies or the thing was a disaster from the start...waiting to happen. Predictably the pilots got lost, then they flew into each other and Carter looked even more inept than ever. And then a very funny thing happend...as we came closer to elections with that clown, Reagan, leading the pack...George Bush senior, then head of the CIA, disappeared for several weeks...as he was the vice-presidential candidte on the ticket with Reagan, his absense was noticed...but only much later, though as vice-president and then later as president himself we got used to his permanent absence. Then came what has been called the "October Surprise"...that is, just short of the presidential election, "negotiations" resulted in the hostages being freed. Why? Why then? And for what concessions? Did the Mullahs who were still calling America "Satan" suddenly go soft? Later "Iran-Contra" would provide some clues when we saw Reagan's operatives all over Iran selling weapons to the Iranians and generally behaving badly...with such a terrorist state as Iran was made into...with massive help from the US of course...the Mullahs of Iran being another godsend for bidness policy...which is all American foreign and domestic policy is. At the least it was opportune timing for no one wanted to be led by an inept president...but rather this new breed of acting, singing and dancing presidents and politicians who openned the way to other lack-talents...but fast talkers, to come into government. Fast forward several years and we have son of Bush stealing the presidency and the most fortuitous surprise hitting us in September. The collapse of the WTC made Bush a well loved man and the second most respected president in our history, behind Lincoln. The day he took office he bombed Iraq and went on doing it every single day and the Media, who all have a stake, as well as stock, in this thing did the Goebbels two-step, yelling at us and "making" news to suit the times and Bush got his war and Halliburton got theirs along with several others and we got ours...several soldiers dead, the increasing hatred of the world and we're broke again but corportions are rich enough to buy congress some more so they'll reduce the taxes they already don't pay...PLUS, they'll turn around and loan us back the money they stole from us...and we'll pay them interest forever on it too and be glad we have enough left over to buy some chips and a beer come the next Super Dooper Bowl. What I want to know is what the November surprise is gonna be this time, for a lot of surprising things come our way when Repubs are eyeing the White House and know it would be a surprise indeed if they took control without one. --------------------- |
