this is a rare opportunity to get a glimpse into what these people use for minds...you have to read carefully because it SEEMS to make sense...but the contradictions, both in this "we are only and always Christians" and their comments on the new Iraqi flag are most revealing. Beth Suryoyo Assyrian (Othuroyo) Forum -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by §uryan F. on 26 Apr 2004 23:39:55: As an answer to: New Iraqi Flag is Chosen written by Assyrian News on 26 Apr 2004 21:33:39: This flag is revolting. ...That`s the way they feel about the Stars and Stripes right now...funny how that happens..no? Does it still mean anything to be truly secular in the Middle East, and to believe that a nation should equally represent all its citizens? ...you people aren`t truly secular..when you set up the idiotic rules by which you`ll accept a person as an Assyrian...not a one of them is secular..all your reference points are religious..all your parties are religious, all your factions are religious..all you ever do is talk religion..all you ever build is religion..all you ever raise money for is religion..all you`re obcessed with here is religion...so what do you know about anything secular? This flag is an ugly expression of dictaroship of the majority (both religiously and ethnically). ...that`s how they feel about the Stars and Stripes..though in that case it`s been a dictatorship of the Minority that didn`t win the majority vote...things happen..ask Aprim. The flag represents what they want it to represent..I know it`s become fashionable for America to decide who lives and who dies..but until they kill everybody some of us are going to try to live free. Following this logic, if the flag of Iraq represents Muslims, why shouldn't it represent Christians, Sabeans, Yezidis and non believers too? And if it has a stripe for Kurds, why are there no stripes for Assyrians and Turkomans too? ..for the same reason the Supreme Court would like to shove religion down our throats and we get god and his commandments up our arses every time we try to wipe..because Iraq is a MUSLIM country and is as proud to be as America is thrilled to be one nation under god...we have secular laws that tried to keep religion out..but it`s a shakey place right now we`re all in...the Muslims never had that kind of division...they sure as shit aren`t going to change to please you...however..on their web site they USED to have the cross...something I`m sure you boys wouldn`t do for the Crescent if the shoe were in your mouth. Muslims know well enough through bitter experience how the Christian West has manipulated the religious minorities over there..not ethnic, religious. They want as much of a united front as they can get to face this constant attack..makes perfect sense...go to America and ask for a stripe there. But above all, why can't the flag just be secular and neutrally represent all religions and ethnicities in a nation which has so many religions and ethnicities? Why does it have to represent religion and ethnicity (with a selective choice), rather than common citizenship? ...ah well, there you have it. You boys have been making a point of how different you are..that you are NOT Christian ARABS when you insist all Muslims have to be Arabs..I`d say you`ve been hoisted on your own petard. Not one Assyrian would identify with such a flag, and not one secular person. Unfortunately our nation has seen so so many flags rise on its lands which it did not choose. ..they are not your lands..they were never your lands..any more than they are the lands of all those there..at the same you fault them for not be inclusive, you claim the entire country..from the safety of a western Christian nation more than likely..you are not ONE with the people of BetNahrain just because you were born there..if you were...unless you choose your friends on the basis of their zip codes. Oh well, at least Assyrians have (from an artistic perspective) one of the nicest flags on earth, and they can be proud of it. But where is the land that goes with it! ...it`s in Chicago and Turlock...enjoy. And that flag isn`t Assyrian either...Assyrians never used that flag that anyone can verify..its another Front brought to you by your priests who decided you loons MUST be Assyrians..because you speak the language of Christ. §uryan F. --------------------- |
