my reasons for doing this will become clear later and who cares what you think...there's an opportunity to publish a certain book of photos taken by certain guys of ours who spent time in Iraq a couple of years back. The fly in the ointment is that same Jesus. I remember clearly one photo that sticks in my mind posted here...the one of a group of children with their ethnic breakdowns..their "enemy status" listed..with the question..."can you tell which is which"? The reason I got involved isn't important...but I am. While we thrash out the artistic parts of this...always remembering that I have nothing to do with that portion...we've run right smack into that same wall..the one that has written on it...ASSYRIA FOR ASSYRIANS...DEATH TO EVERYONE ELSE...which translates as CHRISTIANS ARE AT IT AGAIN! A lot of the photos may have a religious tone...a Christian one because of the background...but that can be kept to a minimum if not eliminated altogether. We have the chance to produce a professional class art book that will have the widest possible audience because of the theme...the quality of the photos and the fact that the whole world has Iraq on its mind in one way or another. And I don't want to blow it by producing cheap propaganda. I'm reminded of my work with Walter making cards from drawings made by Assyrian children and how we foundered on the same issue. Walter wanted JESUS wrtitten all over the cards...I wanted CHILDREN IN DISTRESS to appear...Jesus died already and flew to heaven where he's eating kebobs...the children left down here need some help. I resent like hell the church trying to ride the backs of EVERYBODY...and ride them to death. Walter finally withdrew and I went it alone...but that's never enough for these people...they MUST kill what they can't control..with Jackie's help they made sure the people I HAD been working with learned the "truth" about my MOTIVES...and guess what those were? To get rich selling cards to ASSYRIAN Christians!!! We're just starting on this book and the people invloved have no idea I just went public but tough shit...I'm tired of hiding our best and showing instead this mealy-mouthed propriety as we sink into the grave. I do NOT want to contribue to the murder of more children, or adults who leave behind bitter children the various churches can seize upon to make MORE murderers of. This book can begin to heal the silly and nutsy kinds of divisions we're helping to exacerbate in the MidEast. No one...NO ONE cares that Christians were killed back there...do they care NOW??? No one is going to set up an enclave of Christians or give them any gurantees beyond what everyone else gets..to live in peaces IF they respect the integrity of MUSLIM countries...and stop trying to work a land claim for an empire dead 2500 years without a TEAR shed by Christians for it..anywhere near to the tears shed over Mel Gibson. I've probably pissed eveybody off who's involved but I don't give a damn. My own grandafther and many other Assyrians tried to warn the idiots of their day not to take arms up and DEMANDS THEIR LANDS be returned to them...especially as Iraq had just openned its borders to take them in...most listened and lived...a few got what they asked for. I don't want the same thing to happen again and it is precisely THIS CHURCH that will insist we inflame passions back there some more by coming around now of all times to remind the world...one that doesn't care...but mostly to piss our Muslims brethren off some more..that CHRISTIANS HAVE SUFFERED!!!
