This Sunday’s reading at the Church of the East included this very fitting passage from Isaiah. Isaiah prophesied (chapter 31 verse 8) "Ashur will fall by the sword that is not of man, a sword not of mortals will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor. Their stronghold will fall because of terror; at sight of battle their commanders will panic ... declares Yahweh." Isaiah wrote this sometime between 740 - 701 bc. This passage came to pass in 612 bc when Assyria was defeated by the Medes and Babylonians. Tishbukhta le Yahweh Allaha bimromah! Its very fitting that this passage is read on the same weekend that the Assyrian convention is held in California. -Dean --------------------- |
