ashur vs yahwe Another significant difference between what Ashur had us do and what the Hebrews and later their knock-off Christians did can be seen in the way we each treated this business of fighting under a god's command. You have to keep in mind what more recent and unbiased scholarship has said about the "bloody" Assyrians...that it was essentially another military invention of theirs...propaganda I mean. But even if not, let's look at the evidence, such as it is. We know from the Tower of Babel story that a multiplicity of languages were in use among us and this reflected the numbers of diverse people living in Assyria and Babylon. There is also ample evidence that gods were moved along with people, whetrher conquered or just on the move and that temples were built to honor the gods of subject people...even of one-time enemies. There must have been an pervasive feeling that different people from different regions had their own gods, very like their own kings, who watched over them in their lands and who could travel with the people watching over them somewhat, though without the power they would have had back home. The Hebrews had ONE language..ONE god...and NO foereigners to speak of,certainly none who were protected and allowed to pursue their own religion..they were even killing their OWN people for having a different god. Hebrew ways in just about everything were clearly not a part of Assyria. While Assyrian inspriptions invoke the name of Ashur as blessing the enterprise...and even commanding it...no military expedition was mounted for the express purpose of wiping out the gods or the people of a competing god. It was also Ashur's command as relayed through our kings that subject people recieve good treatment, that they not be harmed further..again because we had need of them to build Ford Motor Company..one day, and also because we weren't Monotheistic and hence egocentric believing the world revolved around us and our god, who was justified in asking all others be subjected and destroyed for his greater glory. Had Ahur ever sounded like yahwe..we would have disowned him ourselves. In fact such insanity may have been behind getting Abraham thrown out...being an itinerant merchant he may have liked what he heard out in the desert and came back trying to suggest such nonsense and was sent packing immediately as a result. We were no fools. Were we good at what we did...you bet. But as you can see from just a fraction of what we created that we not only created a lot, but we must have had a lot of help doing it. If you look over at the parents of Christianity you'll see precious little, that wasn't stolen..because their religon wasn't about building anything...thier god yahwe commanded them to destroy...and to do it for its own sake...not to gain subject people and welcome them and make them feel at home..but to get rid of ALL competition...with NO converts or subject people...just murder them all. They could hardly have expected to build much with that kind of attitude and religion...talented people and skilled workers are as necessary to a building project as bricks and mortar...it does no good to have tons of bricks, a design for a building and no workers. Killing all those who don't share your narrow defintion of what makes you worthy to even live and breathe would be like destroying all kilns for firing bricks...both of which are the raw material for building a civilization...destroy the bricks and you have nothing but people with no shelter...kill the people and you'll not even have the bricks, never mind anyone to build anything..you'll have nothing..you'll have Jerusalem. Considering their massive envy it should come as no aurprise that the Hebrews would call the wealth of Assyria an abomination...and seek to downplay its meaning and make it the work of devil spirits and what not..and in the same vein would they extoll their sheepshit "kingdom" and their highway robber of a "king", David. Less was more to the Hebrews, in fact NOTHING was EVERYTHING and with a manaically intolerant religion like that of yahwe...what could you expect to build? Paul beneifts from the violence he helped uneleash againt Iraq...because America, the WRONG Christian land...suppsoedly wards off an attack from Islam..which if we are to believe his president, will destroy his Christian America..and then where will he hide? If this is true, then Paul can certainly see what benefits may have come to the Assyrians, whom history shows several people DID try to destroy, protecting itself when necessary. But what matters is what each has produced... we made half of civilization...the descendants of yahwe are at it again... destroying the source of it. It's no more than them old Hebrews would have loved to do..they just had to wait till enough of us came over to their side. --------------------- |
