why Christianity is Killing us 1. No matter what the specifics of the religion...and even if it were an entirely different religion, the facts on the ground make it death to us. 2. We lose our identity in the West 3. For the sake of religion we become enemies to our own people and cut off from because of it. 4. We are tainted by what Western Christianity does Christianity is killing us...it has been for some time. I don't mean specifically because of its belief structure and rituals, although those don't help. If we lived on our own planet or everyone else believed as we do, we might not be harmed by such a religion. But we're living in the company of lots and lots of people who don't think or believe as we do. On top of that the dominant Christian religions behave in such ways as to drag us along with them making us as despised as they are for what they've done in our part of the world. As our fiery extremists distrust and hate all Muslims for what a few have done...so do they hate us few for what other Christians have done. Personally I don't think being real Christians, the way Paul means it, is worth a plugged nickel. If our concerns are for the welfare of our children, the cleanliness of our houses and persons, the honesty of our interpersonal relations...all these things are found in other religions and among people with no religion and are just as rare among the religious and Christian as anyone else. If we care for the quality of our lives on this earth...any kind of a focus on an afterlife no one can explain, that takes our time and attention from what happens down here, is a fool's game...especially when our earthly behavior is supposed to be structured such as to qualify us for a life after death, without giving due consideration for how we live on eartrh... All of the abject humility and willingness to suffer and seeing transcendance in being MADE to suffer for our belief that suffering is GOOD and emulates HIM...sets up down here...conditions us to accept the unacceptable...every wound and broken toe can be rationalized as a test or a direct confirmation that we are on the right path..right up to that "glorious" cross of execution we place around our children's neck. And never mind teaching cannibalism and ritual human sacrifice..we won't get into that. But it wouldn't matter what Christianity was made of...or if it was an entirely different religion than it is...the forces on the ground, the historical and political reality we live in and have for the last 1000 years have made Christianity our death...have stigmatized us in our own homeland. Initially through no fault of our own...but increasingly we've added to our own misery by producing just enough dimwits who've betrayed us to it every time. In the first place we've made the Assyrian Identity completely dependent on a Christian religion...on top of that we've called those who are most ignorant politically and in ever other way,MOST Christian and then by extention, most Assyrian. If you refuse to make being Christian the same as being Assyrian, no matter what else you do that is Assyrian, you will not be accepted as a "real" Assyrian but a traitor to your "nation" and a sell-out etc. If you refuse to see a bright future at the end of an American war you are called foolish and unaware of "political realities, necessities and opportunities" and once again denounced as a traitor and one who wishes well to the enemies of your people, who all happen to be Muslims...accordingly. In other words, to be a real Assyrian to these people, you must believe in things and behave in ways that have clearly been marking us for more and more destruction and loss...if you look back over your shoulder and project what has happened to us in the last 100 years into an increasingly violent and hate-filled future you will find no cause to be hopefull...for we've already begun to see yet another exodus from BetNahrain starting...and this time like the last time, our "leaders" and most ardent "nationalists" will refuse to see their own part but continue to make us out to be those Christian victims and innocent sheep they like so much..the ones who's ultimate mission in life is to be slaughtered and eaten, very much like HE was...and whose end, we should remember, is what we are striving for...to be like HIM is at the core of our religion and HE did not live happily ever after on THIS earth. Those of us who place all their Assyrian eggs in a Christian basket will have nothing when that breaks...when we run to the Christian West to be "safe" and free to practice the religion we've made nine-tenths of our ethnic identity...we risk losing everything for our children and their children will gradually lose interest in religion. This falling off from formal religion is growing at an alarming rate in the West...hence the virulent and overwrought born again and evengelical push...against which there will surely come a backlash and the long slide will continue. In a Christian West it becomes less imperative for our children to go to church...and in time the language will be used less and less...you know it's true...Like every other immigrant group we will see our children adopt Pop culture as their common denominator...and there goes any specific Assyrian Heritage...for no heritage or People can survive with food and dancing...and stop attending church and you may not even do that. Back home Christianity has been killing us because we are associated with and have a bunch of hotheads who are STILL tying our fortunes to, a Western Christian agenda that since the Crusades has been tainting us by association. It doesn't matter the religion...the Mideast could be all Christian, with America and Britain Muslim and us Assyrians the REAL Muslims of the Mideast..and we'd STILL catch hell for what a Muslim Britain and America did in Christian BetNahrain. It isn't the religions that are in question, it's the dynamics of war, politics, internal combustion, distribution of resources on the planet and a whole lot of other stuff that would place us in jeopardy no matter what the link was tying us to the West...the marrauding, murdering West that manages to find enough of us willing to sign on to whatever they do in our Homelands. Being Christians and feeling a sense of oneness and solidarity with people who are very different from us in background and culture AND in religion..people we can see are the "wrong" kinds of Christians...we've tied our Heritage nonetheles to their fortunes and not just the heritage but our lives, property rights and the security and welfare of our families...because the religion we share is also the very bedrock and basis of our Assyrian Heritage. In fact, the Americans could BE Assyrians, with Hanna's flag flying over the White House and whipping in the breeze on American tanks and we'd STILL get the crap kicked out of us every time they meddled in BetNahrain. We only recognize Muslim crimes against us..hence the First World War, another totally uncalled for and unprovoked war against a sovereign nation sitting on oil...is seen by us only as a time when WE lost several Christians. We can't bring ourselves, because of our Christian loyalties, to see Christians as the aggressors in that war...we will not recognize the greater genocide and massacres of innocent Turks and the theft of their lands...we will not blame the West for costing us not only thousands dead...but also the Millet System which gave us more autonomy than we will ever have. Our blind support of everything our fellow Christians in the West, who don't even really share the same religion with us, has carried over into this latest unprovoked attack on our people and once again we refuse to see how much damage they have caused us all...and how they've screwed up our future again...once again forcing us to run for our lives STILL refusing to see that but for them and their greed and ruthlessness...we would have continued living in peace among our people. We have a core group of dedicated fools and cowards and blowhards who've never been able to accept the realities in BetNahrain...who've had their heads filled with religious nonsense about how they and they alone are the real owners of the land..the pure decsendants of the great Assyrians...whose religion they none the less they mock, whose Kings and ancient culture is trashed by "bright Christians" such a Paul Younan...and who've been encouraged by we know not what to look upon America and Great Britain as the friends of Darkies everywhere, the ones who right all wrongs..who would never allow a hair on a Christian head to be harmed...who have a deep seated loathing for anyone who would steal the lands of indigenous people etc. Yet this can't be so...the boys can't really believe the West is coming to their rescue. Their clinging to this baseless hope through all these years...passing the hope onto enough children to keep it going, inspite of all the evidence to the contrary screaming out all about them, cannot be as a result of their calm and reasoned sense of "history"..their acute awareness of "politics"...their grasp of "facts" etc...for all of these combined would lead them to the exact OPPOSITE conclusion..that there IS no hope of triangles..that there IS no hope of military bases set up among them to "protect" them..that there IS no hope of their being adopted by the rich and famous, stroked and petted and seen as some valuable trinket from the hoary past, like rare ducks in a petting zoo the idle rich mean to preserve for their children's amusement. The boys can't possibly believe all this. And you have to wonder even more when you hear them calling for MORE of what's already killed so many and ruined so much and inflamed and created so much undying hatred and calls for revenge...the very loosening of the bands that held fundamentalists in check in Iraq and Iran and the entire region should have been enough of a threat to have made the boys wary of anything that would destabilize Iraq and the region..they could have looked over to Palestine and seen the half century of Christian crimes committed through Israel and the impact just that was having on the growth of fundamentalism...and if that wasn't enough, there was Iran which was torn apart by the United States and sent back several hundred years in Time...and if nothing else did the Iran /Iraq War should have given them pause because the Christian West was selling to BOTH sides and helping and interferring... No...they aren't that stupid. What they are is pissed...mightily pissed and out for revenge through others. In the boys and their ancestors who behaved as they did, you have Christians who believe their religion should have been supreme...that it should have dominated..that God was on their side once till the Devil Muhammad came and swept them aside...they have blamed "historical forces" all their lives for their personal failures..for their unpopularity as children growing up...look at how often they chide one another with being "badly spoken of"...or badly"thought of"..."how this makes you look" etc. You can see it in the way they take opposition personally...how they resort to mean spirited attacks and banning and deleting to keep them "popular", to rid their path of all honest obstrcutions, like Jesus would have favored them too,,,,would have banned and deleted for them smoothing away all Tiglaths in their path if ONLY Mushammad hadn't intervened...and their enemy of choice is not the desrt Arab or Turk..it is the Assyrian who "betrayed" them and "sold them out" by becoming Muslim. These are boys who would cheat to get "honor"...who resort to cowrdly tricks to appear "brave"...they are boys who ALL left Betnahrain and who, if they were there today, would be among the first to run for their lives...yet they are the same ones who urged the United States to go to war and turned a blind eye to all the evidence coming back of what this has cost...and who yet want MORE. Love for Assyria...for the Assyrian people..for the Assyrian Homeland...for Christians there...Love did not compel them to this course of action...it is hatred that drives them...hatred for all that Islam reperesnts and which they feel has been their personal enemy all their lives and throughout history...and they would place anyone else at risk...send anyone else into danger..risk ruining anyone else's life and home and country and future...to get back at Islam, and especially at Assyrian Muslims. They will not risk their own..they will not themselves go..they will not risk their homes, families or comforts...but they WILL cheer others on...and in this way they can remain "real" Christians...innocent Christians who would never shoot anyone...but who WOULD hire the assassin and leave a road map for him to follow...and this is well known in BetNahrain...and for being such real Christians..they are hated even more...not the Christians there...no no...but the ones directing this "war" from the comfort of the Christian West where they are cradled in the arms of the wrong and bloodiest Christians and people to walk the planet...ever! Christianity is killing us...in one of several ways it is causing Christians among us who've made the religion their complete ethnic identity as well, to lose the one with the other...it is pulling us away from our homeland...pulling us apart from each other in factional disputes....pitting us against the rest of our people who happen to have converted to a different brand. It may well be that Assyrians, even Christian ones, seeing this as inevitable...especially as the attacks by the West escalated, decided to rededicate themselves to BetNahrain by converting yet again, but this time to the dominant religion, Islam...so they could not be used by Western Christianity, or tainted by association, allowing themselves to be refered to as "allies" of the nations and religion hellbent on attacking and robbing them at will...for which the United Nations has been the Front of choice. This very handful of boys and their antecedents may be the single greatest threat and danger to our Assyrian Heritage and its continued presence in BetNahrain. I didn't think that or know it four years ago...or much further back on the few occasions I had to see them in action..but even then...27 years ago I remeber thinking more and more..."This can't be right...these people do not "love" the Assyrian identity...instead they are trashing it and dumbing it down and making a joke of it". Now I understand what I was feeling...I have what I believe are the "facts"..or at least the observations to make my case...but then, let them do it for me...let them expose themselves to more and more and wider public scrutiny...sooner or later the questiosn will begin to bombard them..and they'll do what they've always done...run. They'll run back into their forums and weave more fantasies of revenge against their own people for daring to reject Christ...that's all this "nationalism" comes down to.
