>The Church of the East never became an official creed of any political entity. It is impossible to suppose that it had any power to force itself on anyone, especially in the far eastern portions of Asia which it reached, as Parhad says, "barefoot." ......I never stated it did. You guys asked for ONE example of how the CofE was using violence and coercion to gain new converts similar to the acts of the Roman Catholic CofW. I gave you that very evidence that showed that the CofE was no better than the CofW. I gave you a quote from a biased AND Christian missionary who claims that this was the case. For Ashur's sake Moffett himself clearly states, "The Shah could scarcely ignore open desecration of the state temples and the destruction of religious peace in his realm." If it was the CofE according to a biased Christian missionary who was destroying religous tolerance and peace in Persia then I can only wonder at what was truly happening in Perisa through a Perisan perspective. >Why can't you admit that the Church of the East grew to be the largest Christian church by the 11th century...WITHOUT employing the tactics that the Western Church used to force people? .......They may have been less bloody but they were far from innocent angels khizma. And it's not me who's claiming this. It's Moffett who provides this one example of evidence. I am only quoting him. > >The challenge issued by Dean and I is not the action of a mob, no matter how horrific it may have been. The challenge was to show any forcible conversion used by the CHURCH itself in order to gain converts. The cognates in the west are the Inquisition, Africa, Native Americans, etc. Can you give similiar examples from the church you know? ........Don't become another Aprim with this issue. Khizma you asked for evidence I provided it. The CofE did force people into Christianity in the East. This is a source from one of your co-religionsts for Ashur's sake and despite his foerce defense of Christianity the truth shines through for all to see. > >If not, then agree with Dean and I (as Parhad already has) that the Church of the East never did those things. If they happened, somebody would have preserved record of a village in China that was terrorized by those monks who travelled there on foot from Beth Nahrin. Can you name any village in China, Japan, Phillipines or India that has preserved such a record of atrocity at the hands of the Church of the East? ......Why would I bother? If I proved those points then you'd come up with more hurdles for me to jump. You'd say something for example like, Tiglath recent Buddhist converts who terrorised the local population into becoming Christians by raping and killing them is NOT evidence. Show me when they raped, killed AND pillaged, just like the CofW." --------------------- |
