A Thought for a New Federal Flag *PIC* http://royalassyrians.com/images/4StarsTriangle.jpg Posted By: Hanna Hajjar (ACC7C596.ipt.aol.com) Date: Tuesday, 17 August 2004, at 2:04 a.m. During the opening ceremonies at the Olympic games of 2004, something very interesting happened! I don't know if you had noticed it too. The North and South Korean Olympic teams marched under one unified flag! It was not the flag of the Nort, it was not the flag of the south, instead it was a new third flag that showed the Korean peninsula as a unified territory. This gave me an idea for a new Federal flag that unites all the segments of our nation: 1. A Tri-Color flag, made of "Red, Yellow and Blue", (those colors are part of our folklore, and I am sure that you have heard the songs about "Smuqa Wu Zarda Wu Sarbella", Or "Smuqo Wu Zarqo Wu Shaoutho"). ........So you finally agree that the red, white and blue of our flag bears an uncanny resemblance to the American stars and stripes and was co-incidently designed in America, to boot? 2. The center Yellow Triangle represent the Assyrian-Triangle. ........Enough with the triangles. No-one believes in your or your many shapes. Just one Muslim-Assyrian from the city of Tikrit(trade) would send all of you running back to the states, and he only converted to Islam 200 years ago. 3. The two Blue segments represent the eternal Rivers of Beth-Nahrin, (The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers). .....Shouldn't they be yellow and more truly represent the gift the Us and the British are truly giving our people in Iraq? 4. Four stars in the Yellow Traingle, one for each of our churches: (The Chruch of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church, The Syriac Orthodox Church, and Syriac Catholic Church). Note: if other denominations/religions join this federation, then a new star could be added for each). This flag highlights the heartland of our nation, and treats all denominations as equals, so that anyone irrespective of his denomination can look at this flag and see himself represented in it. .....No your honour I don't havea religously-based identity. The steles of our Assyrian Kings represented ALL our people and included the crescent moon of Sin(modern Islam) and the winged cross (modern Christian) in their steles. The day you learn to follow in the footsteps of our ancients and not follow the instructions of your parochial priests is the day you can design a flag that will represent all our people and all their religions. Graphically, the colors are arranged in a way to create maximum color contrast, this way even if the flag is represented in Black & white or half-tone, the different parts of the flag would still be distinct and not look washed out. .....Allow me to explain it. It looks like an envelope sent by express post from Iraq by our American liberators. The 4 represents the 4 innocent Assyrians that were killed this week, every week, due to the American invasion. The yellow is clearly a symbol of our groups and churches in the diaspora and their courage in attempting to stop the US war of aggression. And the shape of the flag represents the envelopes that are being sent, by Assyrians who have lost family members, to the diaspora communities telling them they want out in a hurry. This flag is a suggestion just to give you an idea of what I meant when I said to have something that represents all segments of our nation. It was "Just a Thought!" I wonder what you think of it, or if you have any alternate idea! .....What? Now you want us to put more effort than you obviously did in thinking about your flag? I don't THINK so. Hanna Hajjar ......Bless you. --------------------- |
