Irving Kristol (1920-) is considered the founding father of American neoconservatism as well as a prominent Jew.

He attended the City College of New York, where he was an active Trotskyite. He wrote in 1983 that he was “proud” to have been a member of the Fourth International in 1940. [1] (http://www.amconmag.com/06_30_03/feature.html)

He is the former managing editor of Commentary magazine and now a Senior Fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute in Washington. He's the Publisher of the foreign affairs magazine The National Interest. He describes himself as a "liberal mugged by reality."

He is also the father of William Kristol.
