>When there is no one to pay you and you have to use own money..when there is no precedent...no organization, no support system...when there is no expressed need, when people arenŠt asking you for it...when it hasnŠt been done for 2500, it takes an Assyrian to do it. It took Christians to STOP the next one. No one to pay you except Helen Nimrod? Didn't she pay you for Shamiram? You were paid for it already. You're just sore that most Assyrians don't give a damn about it. They can go to the Oriental Institute in Chicago anytime they please and see the *real* artwork the *real* ancient Assyrians created. Are you sore about that? That they didn't come roaring to your defense, or offense, against the good ole' Senator? You have no way of knowing you're an Assyrian, unless we are to believe your trapped gas bubble warm-and-fuzzy account at the museum. You admitted yourself that you could be descended from those sheep-herding Jews. What's Assyrian about you? >...there was no artistry at all in the monument itself...it was merely a modern rendition of some combined elements I chose from our past...there is nothing magnificent in the actual sculpture at all. There is some technical skill and a few aesthetic choices were made. But there IS something magnificent in the spirit behind it. Sure...had there been a competitoon and funding and place chosen and all the rest of it that goes into securing the best bits of puclic land in such cities as Chicago and San Francisco where NO money couold buy or rent them...then a Chinese...even a Christian could have done it. There is plenty magnificent about it. You're a talented sculptor. I could never do it. You're just being modest. I could care less about complimenting you. Fuck off, I don't care what you think. I tell it like it is. You make good work. Wish I could afford it. Not that your sorry ass would sell me one, I bet you're picky like that. As with most artists, it's better to know the art than the creator. Definitely applies in your case. >...but with the landscape as bleak and dreary as it has been for centuries..with people having to be convinced every step of the way that the monument was important...with having to knock on peopleŠs heads who never bought a sculpture in their lives and convince them to...with having to get them to BELIEVE an Assyrian could do more than commit cultural suicide...with all the obstacles and ignorance and fear and prejudice to overcome...no one could have done it BUT an Assyrian. We always blazed trails...you fell into ditches along the way. It was an impressive thing you did. >>How the hell are you so confident that you're an Assyrian? Don't give me that warm-fuzzy feeling you had at the museum crap, either. It could have been gas for all I know. > >...gas never produced a monument yet. I know...but I SHOW too. >> >>How do you know? > >...you already know there is no answer to it...if I do the work, then I am the worker. ThatŠs enough for me. But not enough to convince a kindergardener. You can "feel" all you want, you can "create" all you want, and you can continue to produce fine sculpture. But you have yet to convince me that you're in any way, shape or form an Assyrian because of any of that. Your definition of Assyrian is too slippery for me. Can't be that easy. --------------------- |
