Khizmie, The Church of the East never became an official creed of any political entity. It is impossible to suppose that it had any power to force itself on anyone, especially in the far eastern portions of Asia which it reached, as Parhad says, "barefoot." Why can't you admit that the Church of the East grew to be the largest Christian church by the 11th century...WITHOUT employing the tactics that the Western Church used to force people? The challenge issued by Dean and I is not the action of a mob, no matter how horrific it may have been. The challenge was to show any forcible conversion used by the CHURCH itself in order to gain converts. The cognates in the west are the Inquisition, Africa, Native Americans, etc. Can you give similiar examples from the church you know? If not, then agree with Dean and I (as Parhad already has) that the Church of the East never did those things. If they happened, somebody would have preserved record of a village in China that was terrorized by those monks who travelled there on foot from Beth Nahrin. Can you name any village in China, Japan, Phillipines or India that has preserved such a record of atrocity at the hands of the Church of the East? C'MON, Khizma. -Paul --------------------- |
