McCain's backing will sway the moderate Republicans who're against the war to vote for Bush (right now, most of them are against Bush). If the Democrats want to win, then they'll have to figure out a way to get McCain to stay out of the mess.

Also, the reason why the Republicans are trying to trash Edwards is because they really are afraid of him. He's a HUGE threat to Bush and Cheney, esp. with all the people showing what liars Bush and Cheney have been.
