"This election will be about JOBS AND ECONOMY AND NOT WAR IN IRAQ." Tony you and Paul are correct. The economy will be the deciding factor, but since we are in a very close tight race the President has to push the War as his biggest achievement. I am not trying to say capitalize on the war, no he will fail just like his father who came out victorious on the war, but lost to the no nake character who coined the phrase "its the economy stupid." Since we are evenly split with the polls one of the candidates needs an edge. Notice Bush does not talk about Iraq, he speaks mainly about terrorism. Are we safer here at home? and who can defend the country better? Bush has a major advantage. The economy is growing at a mederate rate and jobs are being created whether Bush says it or Kerry says it, it is growing with no sight of inflation. We don't want to grow it to fast, then interest rates will start to creep up and in an election time noincumbant President one wants interest rates going up. No president can make the economy go up. A president can make an economy go down by not making radical changes with policy. A good example with a good policy is the trillion dollar tax cuts that the Bush admin. introduced. Another scenerio is through a war. A change or a sign out of a recession is consumer spending. Three quarters of the economy is driven by consumer spending. Another good sign of the economy on a bounce after a recession is the airline aero space industry. When Boeing started getting new orders in for new passenger planes they called back many laid off workers back to the work force. This is a very good trend and the start of a new cycle. But like I stated earlier each candidate is in a neck and neck race because we are split on social issues. Its up to the incumbant and his challenger to come up with the best case for the next or another term. If you really want to think about the social issues, look at what these 527's are all putting out. Smear campagns and nothing else. Who ever puts hi foot in his mouth will lose the next election. --------------------- |
