In Portugal the Jewish community still has rituals unique to them and them alone among all Jews. Inexplicably when all are seated at the table for the Sabbath and about to do seder...one of them will get up and go to the door and stand there during one prayer...as if he is LISTENNING. That is a carry over thatĒs become a part of their Jewish tradition to recall when they agreed to "convert" to Christianity...but kept their religion for private use and had to use great caution when continuing their practices in home because there were spies set on them who would collect half their property if the found out they were still Jewish in body and soul..that only their MOUTHS had made the conversion..even though they were forced to go to church and play Christian. Their god TELLS them it is perfectly okay with him..that he expects no mock heroics...that he knows them well...knows that in their hearts they keep faith...that by LYING they are doing a great service to HIM...because they are STAYING ALIVE AT ALL COSTS..they are trusting to him to get them through it...they know HE knows they are suffering untold agony every minute they have to fake it as Christians...they know they will still pay for it later and they did...when the Inquisition came back at them and robbed them all over again and tortured them and killed them because the church REALIZED theyĒd been tricked...because by converting the Jews were able to keep their wealth and property and they USED this wealth to help other Jews get strong..in countries where they hadnĒt been forced to become Christian and die...and they kept raising their babies and they taught their babies that you do ANYTHING...anything at all to remain alive and serve Yahwe with more babies and more babies and you kept your real faith locked up within your hearts because real faith isnĒt for public dispolay anyway.it isnĒt for glory or to be remembered at martyr parties...it is for KEEPING the faith alive by keeping the PEOPLE alive and keeping the treasure with which burned down synagogues can be re=built and stolen Torahs replaced and money sent to keep promising students in university and keep businesses afloat so there will be more money..money to bribe Christian officials so theyĒll let Jews off the hook here and there and anywhere and everywhere because EVERY Jew COUNTS...it is only you it seems who have a surplus of realtives no one needs for anything except to get killed and lament their "loss" for years. Lost for what?...who needed them?...not you. Of COURSE IĒd deny Ashur with my mouth...do you think he hasnĒt grown accustomed to that by now? Do you think he buys your silly assed words in praise of what HIS people built..when you consign their god, the one who inspired them to build half of civilization, to hell...as a good Christian MUST? Ashur is in your heart and mind...there is no need to hang anything around your NECK...or get it slit in his service..it isnĒt that easy to be an Assyrian...as all you Christians relaized when that Ashurbanipal went up...and thatĒs the main reason you"ve kept the Shumirum face down in a parking lot...itĒs what youĒve done to this Heritage for centuries.
