Hi Khizma, >So what you're saying in essence is that the Hebrews, who according to the Bible, were related to us and simply continued the tradition of their ancestors the ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian and Assyrians by passing down their literature from one generation to another even though they managed to include anti-Assyrian quotes such as Psalm 137:8-9 and depict us as the rod of Yawheh's anger etc. Yes, the Hebrews were from Akkadian and Sumerian stock just like us. Their own histories tell us this. They say Oraham came from Beth-Nahrin - why should I doubt them? Otherwise, where did the similiarities come from as far as language, looks, etc? >Well then how do you explain the following Bible quotes which reinforce their belief in the work not onyl being infallible BUT original as well. Through these quotes they claim everyone of our ancient myths, epics and poetry from Napushtim's Ark, the love song of Ishtar and Tammuz, the code of Hammurabie etc? OK - I'll explain. >Now I know you'll probably use the cop-out line they're part of the OT(Ureyta) line so I have also included a quote from the Book of Revelations which is part of the NT(P'shitta.) I wouldn't cop-out Khizma, but for your information the books of Revelations has never been part of the Peshitta. The Peshitta includes only 22 books (ex. Rev., 2 & 3rd John, 2Peter and Jude). >2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you. (Deuteronomy 4:2 The Holy Bible, New International Version) Yes, but this is direct revelation from him in Deuteronomy and not speaking of the pre-Hebrew stories contained in Genesis. >32 See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it. (Deuteronomy 12:32 The Holy Bible, New International Version) Ditto. >5 "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6 The Holy Bible, New International Version) Khouna, the story of Noah in the Bible which the Hebrews who were originally from Beth-Nahrin preserved, is not words from God's mouth. This is a faithful version of that legend preserved by Noah. In no way does it say in Genesis that "God said: Here is the story of Noah, etc." The OT is very clear on what is being spoken of by God and on the other hand what is narrative and story being written by the author. >15 Brothers, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. (Galatians 3:15-16 The Holy Bible, New International Version) Khouna, I don't understand your objection here. The verse is speaking about God's covenant with the descendants of those Mesopotamians who were called to leave the land and go to another land. Please explain what you mean here. The story of Utnapishtim has nothing to do with God's covenant with the Hebrew Mesopotamian lineage. It predates the covenant, in fact. >18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19 The Holy Bible, New International Version) "If anyone adds to them" is pointing back to the first clause in the sentence...."the words of the prophecy of *this* book" - surely you realize that Revelation was written outside of the book of Genesis, don't you? Again, we don't recognize the book of Revelation as canonical, however, this warning is referring to the book of Revelation only - that a person should not add to its words. Anyway, I fail to see your point here. Why is it a problem that the descendants of the Mesopotamians Oraham and Sara preserved a beautiful story from their Mesopotamian culture? -Paul --------------------- |
