Khizmie, What I'm about to briefly summarize is a complicated issue, far too complex to explain in a brief post but I'll try to say it in one or two paragraphs. The Church of the East, from day 1 (I mean literally day 1) was independent of any ecclesial body within the Roman border. We never looked to Antioch, much less to Rome, for any guidance or leadership. We were always independent. If anyone tells you otherwise, it is simply because they WANT to believe that Rome ever had any connection with us. Read Samuel Hugh Moffett's book, "A History of Christianity in Asia Part I." Also, Wigram et. al. Mar Bawai (of California, USA) is also publishing his PhD thesis, which gives empirical scientific evidence of it as well - that the Church of the East was indepedent even before the council of Ephesus. Mind you, Mar Bawai submitted his thesis at Rome, and it was accepted and his doctorate granted. As for Tammuz trees and Ishtar eggs, as you know Khouna, these were things that the WESTERN (Roman) church took from our ancestors....BUT these were things we, the Church of the East, never did back home. Ask your elders if they remember Christmas trees or Easter eggs in Hakkari. We never had them. Shlame, Paul Younan --------------------- |
