that guy on Mad's cover is no one other than the honorable Alfred P. Newman..of "What, we worry?" fame. You have no idea how Mad magazine shook America to its core back in the 50s..it was as radical a piece of journalism as anything because it made FUN of Whitey! Schools banned it..parents when into fits of rage..it was accused of ruining American Youth when it was their parents ruining them. I remember buying it in the bazzar in Kuwait in 1957...in KUWAIT! The stall where we got our fix of American comic books and the only outlet for blue jeans brought us Mad as well. Right next to the guy who sold foreskins and dates. It was indeed a MAD world and the world belonged to Mad. --------------------- |
