Khounie, listen to me carefully please. The flood story predates the Hebrews. Even the OT is clear on this. The first Hebrew was Oraham, from whom the name comes because he "crossed" the river and "Hebrew" means "cross over." Now, as I said even the OT makes it clear that the story of the flood predates the Hebrews because Utnapishtim (Noah in Hebrew language, Nukh in Aramaic language) lived before Oraham and before there was any such thing as a "Jew." Of course other cultures like the Sumerians and Akkadians (from whom Oraham and Sara came) who predated the Hebrews would have known about the flood, whether it was local to Mesopotamia or whatever it was literally. Of course this story was circulated throughout the Mesopotamian world in which Oraham and Sara and their families grew up. Of course the Hebrews later wrote it down in a different language (Hebrew) which the name was changed into the Hebrew equivalent of Utnapishtim - Nuakh. >How can we honestly and scholarly claim that the OT is THE original source when it clearly isn't? The OT never claims it is the original source of the story, and neither do I Khizmie. It is simply the Hebrew retelling of their old ancestor's story about the flood and the ark. They are related to the Sumerians and Akkadians just as much as we are. >Also according to Prof. Simo Parpola the ancient Assyrians also believed in monotheisem. They beleieved that their supreme diety Ashur manifested himself in different personas and had different names in different cities.
