...I think buying our representatives is certainly THE major issue confronting us. It doesn't mean a democracy is inherently a fair or decent place. America was a democracy when there were slaves and lynchings and Natives were being murdered and women suppressed etc. But it is a PROCESS we deicded was the best one going for improving everyone's lot eventually...there is no way to fast-forward the Human Bean over the bumps and lumps of Life. And we did it too, using that blessed document to grant equality to people the Founding Founders didn't even know existed and were holding many of them in chains even as they signed it..and that's precisely why the wealthy are buying up the politicians they'll need to CHANGE that document and why they'll even unleash Terrorists on us, after funding and training and supplying them and turning a blind eye as they learn to fly jets here...because in no other way could they get us to agree to undo ourselves and make us MORE vulnerable to THEIR reign of Terror over us all..the fear and terror that grips us all when we face poverty and are unable to buy even a fairly decent life for our children...while Repubs AND Dems rip us off in the pay of their nominal Masters...when WE OWN the entire wealth of the country. But...education, a real one, is the single most important factor in the quality and decency of a Democrcay..which is the main reason BOTH parties are starving our schools and now paying the church to set up Madrassahs. If parents had more control of government they would surely fund schools over bombs..especially since we see the excuse to use and make more bombs is being manufactured right along with the bombs. One jet fighter can be a school...one missle is several teachers...this simple fact wouldn't be lost on families and children either..and it's something a more freely elected politician would have to address. Right now they can ignore us because we ONLY pay their salary once they get in..the problem is that to get in at all...they have to sell themselves so that we wind up paying in every way for what we had almost nothing to do with selecting from the pool of available talent. More and more millionaires are bypassing the old game of buying politicians entirely and are buying THEMSELVES to represent us. I liked your criteria...there is no need for any Senate seat costing ten times what it pays...unless you need to sell yourself to the highest bidder. WE are the highest bidders..if we would just see ourselves as ONE people when it comes to health care and education and clean air and forests and lakes... --------------------- |
