And now, that the next generation of Chaldeans who are American born are joining...why have they kept the term Iraqi in there? > >Maybe they are proud. > >Even though there are some Chaldean organizations that I just can't stand... (the Chaldean Federation of America being one), they were consistently against the genocidal sanctions which killed 1.5 million Iraqis over the past 12 years. In every letter that they wrote to public officials they made this clear enough. Even if I don't think they are qualified to speak on behalf of the community, they made the correct decision. > >Why did the "Assyrian" leadershit organizations support the sanctions? > >Why is there a disconnect? ...my mother told me that the Chaldeans in Iraq were the ones to take advantage of the situation to improve their status within the country..that they downplayed this business about the land belonging to Christians only...while they kept their Christian faith they also openned businesses in which they knew enough not to piss their Muslim clients and counterparts off by crying over triangles constantly..in other words they had somehting to DO and GAIN that was tangibl, day to day...they joined the dominant cutlure in so far as their work and social relationships went..they went to Muslim homes..they shmoozed with Muslims...they didn`t remain focused only on a minority group...whereas the purist Assyrians remained in their villages, associated only with other purists in the village and never had to bother about competition among clothing stores, businesses, lawyers, doctors...or any other practical dealings..they grew so insluar in those villages all these heroes come from that they were made unfit to live in the larger society..and since there isn`t much work in villages and no education to speak of..the more ambitious ones..who came down for an education found themselves more comfortable in Christian countries, when they were ready to work and marry where there was no Muslim or Arab presence and the constant reminder that Assyria was stolen from them by "Arabs".. Assyrians in Baghdad or elsewhere who didn`t have this prejudice also did well..but the ones we`re hearing the most from are the pissed off Christians from villages...whose religiously induced fits of patriotism made them unwelcome and made the country as a whole an "enema" to them because their priests said it was being witheld from them by uslurping Arabs. I think Chaldeans, even in their villages, don`t have this Church of The East fantasy that they`re the only decsndants blah blah and you should give the country back to them...perhaps it`s the later advent of Catholicism that pays homage to Rome that makes Chaldeans slightly more cosmopolitan, more reasonable and less fractuous...whereas the old farts of the old churches feel the country was stolen from them...so that their pupils can`t stand being reminded that Iraq should really be THEIR Assyria and to compromise with your neighbor so your business might thrive is accepting and legitimizing the THEFT OF ASSYRIA.. Just look at the newspapers our Chaldean community puts out..like the one that ran your article...what do Assyrians have to offer that at all comes close? Zindalite..which merely repeats the same absurd "news"? Aina? The Assyrian Star which comes out once every 15 years or something and has all the news Zindalite already bored us all with? Can you seriously expect or own educated people or white people to read the godawful articles and letters from passionate illiterates about their proooves and rights and demandses? The only Assyrian publication that one can be proud and not ashamed of is Nineveh Magazine and that`s only because of you know whom..more an anomaly than a regular feature..but it`s the only one. The Chaldean newspaper you showed us contained REASON and LOGIC and displayed language skills to go with them, not as they`re defined in horrendous English by villagers from Iraq and the wilds os Syria...but in ways that are completely intelligible to anyone BUT them...which means the people who are Players and not pissers and moaners. I think again it reflects the pride in Iraq and the fact that they never disdained working side by side with Muslim Chaldeans and Assyrians that makes Chaldeans more accepting of a simple reality, that by wharever name, SUBSTANCE counts for more and wether it`s Iraq or Assyria or Chaldea or Babylonia...what you actually DO in any of them is what matters....our boys simply ignore any Assyrian who did the same...who worked and did well and got along just fine...the only time they will recognize these people..who by the way DIDN`T run to America..is when a Muslim kills them because then they are useful...well that isn`t "caring"...it`s opportunism with a dented halo. --------------------- |
