Maybe he's just sick with something and it doesn't have to do with his age.... ...dog's four or five years old... been to three Vets already...they say it's distemper...one said maybe a tick born disease...the last Vet at the local SPCA was wonderful...showed me a dog they had wandering around who also has it...but it's stabilized..you can't go back but sometimes you can stop the progress...she said an unproven treatment but one that works often is to give the dog the vaccine now...even though she has the full virus in her..as well as super shots of vitamin B12...so we did that for a week...injections and vitamins and all...plus a LOT of fatty food to get her weight back up...and damned if it didn't seem to stop it..the Vet said if it didn't work the deterioration would be fast...that we'd know in a week...so, she looks a lot older..and probably doesn't feel that well...but she eats...walks fast again..poops and all of that AND started cleaning herself again...so. ..Sometimes I feel silly caring for a dog when there are so many human problems...but I still just can't let it die for all of that...I won't have her killed until and unless it becomes obvious she's sliding fast and hurting for no reason...wish they'd allow us to do that for humans... I know several people who could be put out of their misery now. > >Dogs are *wonderful*.... No other creature has taught humans as much nor loved humans as unconditionally. Unfortunately, it is to the dog's demise, sometimes, that he/she loves so much. Going to the pound to bring someone else's unwanted dog into my home always makes me cry. I want to take them ALL home with me, esp. the ones who act/look like they've seen rough times. I need to stop now, or I'll launch into one of my dog stories and never stop going.... : ) ..I like all animals...hate all pets...especially dogs...something about their fawningness I don't like...cats always intrigue me because with every gesture and step they're sayng "fuck you"...they take the food and go about their own business fully confident that if you drop dead, they'll replace you in an instant...and if not they're just as capable as getting their own meal...I like that attitude... ..But...the children wanted a dog and so I too went to the pound and it hurt me no end to see them all there and to think I was going to choose which lived..I can't be president of the United States either. ..so now I have three dogs...five cats, a fish that refuses to DIE...two rabbits on the roof...two more kittens left to die in the street, in my room now...who still suck on each other's ears because they never had a mother...and two horses...and I HATE pets!!! > >I like cats, too, but I'm allergic to them and they can't hike with me, anyway. ..it's the utter lack of attachment I like so much in cats... --------------------- |
