Dub, What are you referring to when you say that "we are the best nation in the world compared to others by far"? Is it the public education system? Or is it the massive hours that our population works? Or the taxation without real representation (or benefits)? Don't you think that being taxed 1/3 of your well-earned income that you deserve some benefits? Note that Social Security is being bankrupted and there will be hardly anything left once I'm around retirement age which they might continue to raise well over 70 before I even get there.... Offf... I don't know, I've seen better than this and I've also seen worse. So, I don't know about this "best place on earth" scenario. I can tell you that there is a facility to life here that no other place could compare to, but that's about consumption. For example, in most of Europe (and in Australia) you have shops closing down at 6pm and on Thursdays you have late shopping til about 9pm. At first, the whole concept was a little difficult for me to adjust to--> What do you mean that I can't buy groceries at 10pm!!! ---> But I saw the advantages... Everything doesn't revolve around buying, consumption, compulsive purchasing. Window-shopping is a pastime (sp?). Instead of hopping in the car and driving to the supermarket, you plan out your meal, by the ingredients that day. You take the time (that we spend shopping in the US) to be with family and friends... It's amazing what cutting business hours does to cultivate a civil society. These were my observations. Here it's ridiculous. You buy a house, then you go buy another house that's bigger than the last house simply because you can and you're used to having a mortgage and this new house is a bigger investment if you end up selling it. You take out your carpeting and put in "Kashiye," that is "tiles", because everyone and your mother is doing it. Assyrians in Modesto, I recall in the mid to late 1990s were no longer using their garages to park their cars... The old set of furniture were put in the garage so that you can lounge with the garage door up and watch people walking their dogs... I remember the big talk among women was just how spotless so-and-so's garage floor was and people conjecturing as to what they could have possibly used to get the oil stains out of the cement... Miracles abound.... But I've digressed... Dubya wrote: >Tony, > >I can understand what you are saying and I respect you're insight. This is all we have. To be honest this two party system is the best we have all things considering. Ever since the Republican Party broke away from the wigs, they strived to change policy I and idealisms of the old. For God's sake this country went through a civil war and split the country in two. Again we are the best nation in the world compared to others by far. Can you name me a better country that you would compare to the U.S.? I don’t think you can. For once maybe we should take one step back and be grateful and enjoy our freedoms. Freedoms that you and I can exercise and take for granted. Also, on a note please go over the Patriot Act in its entirety and tell me what you afraid of? If it's anybody you should be afraid of… it is the A.C.L.U., the "champions of civil liberty's." > > > > > >Tony wrote: >>Dubya, >> >>Jeff formula is exactly what I depicted in my mind and I strongly believe >>both the JACKASS/ELEPHANT parites are so much in-line with each other. And it is more apparent now than before, partly because of alternative media(s) and >>anti-war movement organizations/groups. >> >>However, this WONT END HERE. I think people in power soon or later will do away with "our constitution and bill of rights"; and we have seen few measures already like patriot act I and II which gives the government the right to enter our homes, tap our phones, check our emails, read our mails, track our bank accounts and how we spend our own money, and...for the sake of pseudo-democracy and freedom just as PETER, GEORGE, and FARIS did to those of us by removing/deleting our posts and humiliated and laughed at us because we didn't prescribe to their LIES AND DECEPTIONS. --------------------- |
