>Yes indeed...the children...ALL of them, who were killed as a DIRECT policy of Sanctions imposed by a government..another crucial component of the meaning of martyr...a GOVERNMENT policy...not mob action or a one time retaliation...those Iraqi children killed because their parents and country would NOT yield are the only real martyrs around...had the parents agreed to change their beliefs to save their children, Sanctions would have, disappointingly for the boys, come to an end much sooner..or had Saddam allowed America to do as it wished in his country..as it is doing now with NEW puppets. I think that's a compelling argument which Tiglath should present in his response to my post... The question will then be raised by Fred or someone else: To what cause were they martyred? To the Iraqi, or the Assyrian? They make that distinction even though you don't. If those are martyrs to the Iraqi cause, then they should be remembered as Iraqi Martyrs since they suffered along with all other Iraqis indiscriminantly. In other words, there was no specific Assyrian cause that they died for....or they didn't die simply for their religion or ethnic classification. I'm just bringing up potential arguments that will arise - R-E-L-A-X. I can hear you typing already. I'm not saying I feel that way, just that that's what will be brought up. -Paul --------------------- |
