...the Grand Inquisition was set up to ferret out insincere Jews who'd been forced to convert to Christianity...how's that for geting at the sources of not-real Christians? It outgrew it's original purpose, which was supposedly merely to weed out the unfaithful and hypocritical and STILL Jewish in their hearts...who unlike Paul chose to stay and suffer so they could fight another day. Soon after the Inquisition morphed into a reign of terror for enforcing the Pope's version of Christianity on everyone...and if they'd have caught Paul they'd have hanged him.

Their favorite tactic was to accuse someone of being in cahoots with the Devil...now you try to prove you are NOT. Once the acuusation stuck..and any secret witness with an axe to grind and an eye out for a percentage of your wealth, which was the "reward" offered informants...you were dead meat.

The beauty of it and the Terror too was that there was no appeal..and also no evidence needed and as if that wasn't enough to get anybody murdered for Christ...you couldn't even face your secret accusers and self-styled witnesses.

Of course everyone knew it was a sham...but who was going to do the "Devil's Work" by saying so? All the Grand Inquisitor had to do was point his finger at you and you were dead. They got you BEFORE you could pllute Christ...it was a pre-emptive religious strike against Evil.

This is what Bush is setting up in America and has already implemented to some degree...and the church won't fight him..hell no, he is a REAL Christian doing not only God's will but decent Humanity's as well.

Soon we'll all be pointing the finger at each other...hotlines will be set up...college graduates majoring in "Anti-Terorism" will have advanced degrees and every incentive to keep their "discipline" alive and well and well funded for they too will have school tuition to pay and college loans and the rest, giving them an economic stake in SEEING the Devil where he doesn't exist, or is a little slow in showing,,,or needs "help" exposing himself...preferably before the end of the month when the mortagage and car and credit card payments are due...for if you make your living from ferreting out Evil...you will SEE all the evil you need to meet your bottom line.

It is a frightening and macabre world they're getting us ready to live in...and the inducement is that we'll all be "safe". The only threat people faced was from the Inquisition itself...after setting it in motion, old Mephistopheles handed over to Torquemada to run and went on vacation...Christianity did the rest.
