..there was never any interest in it...I mean specifically by the Assyrian Christians of Iraq. Who ever stopped them from going to university and studying it? Who in Iraq would have shut down an Assyrian art gallery...or denied a license to an Assyrian dance troupe? Who made them all study engineering, medicine or accounting...who forced them to open liquor stores instead of Assyrian Art Galeries? They were as free to study Assiorolgy and work to promote the heritage and cherish the artifacts as anyone else..as free as they are in West where they also do nothing Assyrian as a PROFESSON..reserving their time and energy on behlaf of "Assyria" for a Christian sermon once a week...if that.

The director of museums for Iraq was an Assyrian and I have no doubt there were others working in the field as well among Assyrian Christians. But why would they need a separate department with it's OWN perspective? Iraqi Christians probably showed as much interest in putting up Assyrian monuments or attending Assyrian piano recitals as they do in the states or Europe. And with the Iraqi government itself doing so much...why would any Christian Assyrian bother?

And they didn't.

This business about Aribizing the heritage is ridiculous. The boys have never produced anything that even remotely backs up their claims. Iraqi scientists aren't so stupid as to tell their colleagues around the world that the ancient Assyrians came from Arabia. This is the nonsense boys weave. The boys say that all Muslims in Iraq MUST be from Arabia, coming with the original Muslims who came from there. This is merely their way of trying to force the issue and make valid their absurd claim that NO Assyrians would EVER have even considered converting to Islam..when they ran like hell to convert to Christianity themselves, which is ALSO a non-indigenous religion in BetNahrain. This simple fact pisses them off so much they adamantly refuse to accept it...and so when Musim Assyrians in Iraq say "WE too are descendants of the Assyrians and other cultures of BetNahrain"..the boys throw somersaults of agony in disbelief and reply..."SEE...we told you they wanted to make Arabs of us".

No Muslim in Iraq is "denying" the boys are of Assyrian descent...let them claim it all they want...what they deny is that the boys are the ONLY Assyrians left today and at that because they are CHRISTIAN...huh? If Christianity can be put forward as all the proof an Assyrian needs..then why can't Islam be used the same way? The Muslims don't "talkalot" about being Assyrians, which the boys use as proooves that they must not be, because they have another great empire to be proud of...one that was built under the auspices of their NEW god...as Christian Assyrians bask only in the gaze of THEIR new god...both sides having lost interest in their original and COMMON gods. We are one people with extremists at both ends who are being used by the West to wage war on OURSELVES and each other. BetNahrain is hardly the first nation in history to have several religions..and neither is Iraq. Most civilized and developed countries have SEVERAL "one -god" religious people living within them and NONE of them are killing each other over it any longer...except us...and we are being encouraged to by the hate-mongering disguised as "love of god" by extremist nuts on BOTH sides of us.

Simply put no Christian in Iraq who wanted to study Assyriology in any university in Iraq, or do anything at all that was remotely connnected to the ancients was molested in any way.

What the boys mean is that Assyrians today can ONLY be Christians...that to BE a "real" Christian is to be a REAL Assyrian. They then come at us with the claim that Iraq is THEIRS because they are the indigenous and ONLY Assyrians and from their ranks come the hotheads who got themselves thrown in jail and hanged..as did any Muslim extremists claiming exclusivity, after which they ran to America and complained they'd been persecuted AS ASSYRIANS!

If Muslim Iraqis were to claim that ONLY Muslims are real Assyrians and to disparrage any Christian claims and make being Assyrian synonymous with being Muslim...you'd have the same thing, except that Christianity is the minority religion and THAT is the crux of the problem.

So long as a minority of a Christian minority is putting out these claims, they will be viewed unfavorably as trying to take what does not belong to them..no matter how many Syriac manuscripts they present. It has never worked and it never will. In fact the world would be shocked if it DID happen..and worried too that all sorts of claims would be put forth in several countries.

We have a hard headed hard core of Christian fanatics and ne'er do wells who've seized upon these bogus prooves as a way to advance their CHRISTIAN faith and seek compensation from someone for what they can't do for themselves...as sure a definition of the Jew Messiah cult as was never necessary in Assyria but crucial to Hebrews. While in Iraq OR out of Iraq, they have done NOTHING remotely "Assyrian" that wasn't PRIMARILY Christian first and then ONLY.

The Assyrian Heritage is in danger in the WEST..it was fine and well in Iraq...taken care of by a phalanx of scientists with support and ties to the international community and with ample funds from a dedicated government. That's all been ruined now and any future claims that Christians are owed ANYTHING..or can claim exclusive title and love for a Heritage whose treasures and scientisst they helped scatter to the four winds, will be rightly scoffed at.

If Iraq is at peace...the Assyrian Heritage there is safer than anywhere else...and if not, then we'd expect to see concern for it from the Christians...concern that takes the form of ACTION. The only time the boys spoke up was after America had spolied the water and THEN only when Saddam was forced to build a dam...something he'd never contemplated doing before the war..and certainly not on any "dear" Assyrian sites. Their cynnical manipulation of Iraqi's desperate need for clean water amidst the unprecedented attack on every aspect of their society for 14 years speaks volumes for their real agenda.

There is no end to the perfidy and deceit the boys have shown in their claims to being real and true and dedicated Assyrians..it's merely another club they've fashioned to beat our Assyrian Muslims with for daring to turn to Muhammad and in the process building yet another magnificent culture...while the boys went begging as Christians and GLAD to do so.

If anyone seriously wanted to save the Heritage..they'd be concerned that their children in the West not forget...which they will do in increasing numbers as they slack off from attending church...which lack of interest is hitting new highs...having always made their religion and language the single key elements of an "Assyrian" identity, the boys in the West have come closest to destroying such an "Assyrian" Heritage and any memory of it...in the one place they were free to be Christian AND Assyrian...but chose instead to be ONLY Christian.

Narsai was on the right track...but I wouldn't allow him to hijack the work for his own glory...as I wouldn't let Nimrod, Bejan or Atour Golani...and so he decided instead to throw his weight behind Christian efforts to re-build Christian villages and churches...again doing nothing for any Assyrian Heritage. It's safe to say there are no Assyrian ANYTHINGS anywhere and all we're talking about is servicing an old Christian church whose parisioners insist is the ONLY expression of anything Assyrian to be allowed or supported.

The single most ASSYRIAN anything in the West is the Ashurbanipal Monument and the one in Australia...as well as the Shumirum and her lioness lying abandoned in storage for the last five years...and the Shumirum in particular reflects the real status of the Assyrian Heritage...not Christian, which is being sacrificed to the church and iTS needs...as it was in the beginning and as we are trying to avoid being the only future our children will have.
