...why an education makes you a traitor to Jesus.

If anything should be clear it's that we're all at a stalemate...only nothing really stands still in Life..we're actually losing...anyway you want to measure we're sliding faster and faster into the toilet...and all our nationalists and experts want is more of the same only LOUDER. The attempt to unify us by making us Assho/Chaldos won't go anywhere either...it's just more nuts in ONE asylum...if you get paid by the number of inmates, then I guess things will get "better".

It has never ceased to amaze me what low quality Assyrians we have shouting about being GRAT Assyrians "Gat Demmit!"...while all the civilized ones I've met say..."Asyrian...what's that?"...and backpeddle as fast as they can..or if they are interested, stay as far away as they can from where the "ardent" ones are.

And I know why now...my own experience notwithstanding...it wasn't enough to explain it, as a general, all-pervasive thing.

The poorer villages in Iraq, having no government schools or advanced ones all these many decades, education was in the hands of the local church who's geratest claim to fame was that nothing had changed in ten million years. In those villages dominated by a sungle church, whatever the priest said was "history" and there was NO disagreeing with the guy who married you and buried you and maybe got you into Heaven.

The Church was quick to seize on the "we are the first Assyrians and the only Assyrians", for obvious reasons...the clincher being this "Language of Jesus" business...like if you spoke Latin today you could claim the Vatican treasure as your own.

I've often wondered why Iraqi Christians with college degrees or advanced ones all seem be in the sciences...Medicine, Math, Engineering, Chemistry...why are there so few graduates in Literature...the Humanities, History...or Assyriology for Christ's sake!

Dr Donny George, who made the boys very nerovous because he was Christian AND the head of the Antiquities Department and ran the museums, was ONE exception...which made him hard to explain away for lots of reasons..first he gave them the lie abnout "Arabization"...then he gave them another lie about how they were all oppressed and forced to leave..But he's a rarity it would seem and now HE's gone...it took Christians to drive him out of the country.

But why so few? I think the sciences and engineering are attractive not only for the jobs OUTSIDE Iraq but because they are neutral...sure you study in Arabic but that's it...there's no clashing with what the Church taught the boys...in math class you don't discuss indigenous people and Christianity and the part Islam played etc. You do that in Literature..Political Science..or History..or Art and Humanities and Philosophy...in these disciplines what the church in the village taught a boy isn't going to fare well at all...it's here that cries of "they are ARABIZING US", originated...because Iraq's history isn't Church history...isn't the accumulation of garbled nonsense the experts above all others in Nonsense, the Christian Church, made of it.

In a university class Christianity was a Jew religion from Israel...and in a university history class that dealt with the British invasion...or the flight of Christians from Iran who were welcomed to Iraq...or the Levies, or Simele will NOT be seen or discussed in the same light as they were in a Church in a village. The church in the city might know better, or just be more careful...but out in the countryside in an "Assyrian" village dominated by one church...these things had their own "truths".

Any Christian kid going on to University would have a tough time of it sitting in on a History of Iraq class...a very tough time for if he did well it meant betraying what his priest told him...hence all the cries of TRAITOR if you say something that opposes the Church, and if you get such a degree or do very well at university, that fact alone, your masters or doctorate makes you immediately suspect...jsut as the most ignorant hog waller types figure of you have an education at all, you aren't going to like pig-sex.

A Christian boy from a village would keep wanting to jump up and call the professor a butt fucking traitor to Jesus and "GO BACK TO ARABIA". It's very like sending a kid from Armpit, Alabama to New York University...he's not going to like the "History of the Civil War and Slavery"...taught by a Jew with a doctorate and ten books on the subject. All sorts of buttons in the kid get pushed the wrong way.

And that, boys and girls...is the reason all of our leaders either drove a taxi, or still do...had a pushcart, or still do...and the reason the HIGHEST and most educated among us have a degree in mechanical engineering and can't get enough of themselves. These are our "intellectuals".

Christianity did indeed keep the boys braefoot and ignorant...but able to construct a triangle.
