(1) The firman of persecution against former Zoroastrians had kindled much zeal in those who were former fire worshippers. The state was coming after them. (2) This zeal manifested itself violently in a certain Qasha named Hushu, probably a former Zoroastrian himself who was sick and tired of being persecuted for his faith. (3) The bishop in question, Abdas, was picked up because he was a prominent Christian, probably to "make an examples" of out him. He personally had nothing to do with this act of desecration against the fire temple of Seluecia. (4) The Church of the East heirarchy was neither aware, nor complicit, in this act of vandalism. (5) Therefore, the charge which David brought against the Church of the East, viz-a-viz that this act was performed in order to force people into Christianity is totally false. We are still waiting for one of two things: (a) An actual example of forced conversion in the Church of the East (b) David's concession to Dean -Paul --------------------- |
