Re: The "MARTYR" Definition Posted By: Alfred Alkhas (158.96.103.33) Date: Friday, 30 July 2004, at 11:45 a.m. In Response To: The "MARTYR" Definition (Fil) Dear Fil, I found also the following two meanings for martyr: ...I don`t understand what kinds of books you`re reading...is any one of them a dictionary? Of the English language? Written by anyone who understands the English language? Why don`t you TELL us the titles? "Mein Kampf" is a "book" too. 1. A person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle ...yes but the sacrifice has to be CONSCIOUS...it must be presented AS A SACRIFICE...to simply be shot at close range in the head for BEING a Christian..or Muslim...doesn`t constitute a SACRIFICE...no matter what you lose..it`s HOW you lose it...and the central issue there is that you HAVE be allowed a way out..or where`s the point? ...someone fucked to death is hardly a martyr..no matter what they "sacrifice" for fucking too much. 2. A great or constant sufferer. ...that is only given as the last choice in any reputable book a Hottentot didn`t write...it means the person who makes a great and constant SHOW of suffering. Someone who`s a "constant sufferer" of symptoms no one can find is a hypochondriac...not a patient. You can show no CAUSE for your symptoms any greater than countless people suffered far more of...people who would be ashamed to call themselves martyrs...a title you love more than "Assyrian"...which you also ain`t. I am not sure of what books or persons you are referring to but you may also consider these two meanings as well should they suffice. ...I have a book that has under "martyr": Anyone who says he is...and hopes to gain some benefit thereby...I have another that simply has a blank space where you can write in your own name. Alfred. --------------------- |
