The death imposed can`t be imposed through random acts of violence..it can`t be imposed by individuals or mobs but must be the stated policy of a nation or governing body and, the person so martyred must be given the clear choice to change said beliefs and live or remain constant and be killed. ...My great grandafther was murdered in Urmia...he was murdered in the process of being robbed by Kurds who hated Christians...I`m making it simple for you. His murder did not make a martyr of him...doesn`t matter HOW much he ws hated for being a Christian. ...Had the Kurds held a gun to his head and told him to change religions...and had he refused knowing they would kill him for it..it STILL wouldn`t make a martyr of him..just a victim of racial and religious hatred and violence...the Kurds had no country..they had no centralized state apparatus and the murder of Christians was nowehere to be found in any directive or book or taught anywhere. ...The presence of "choice" is central to being a real martyr. You have to have a clear way out..that`s the whole POINT of being martyred..that you chose to suffer...CHOSE to suffer. Rounding up 1000 Christians and killing them outright...with no attempt made at getting them to change their beliefs in order to survive...is simply mass murder...there has to be a WAY OUT before you can be said to have been martyred...what you are describing, selectively, is religious hatred that simply seeks to kill those you dislike. The very Christian Hitler...who finally carried out his Church`s teachings as well as the secret and not so secret desires of most Christian governments and rich men of his day...stated in his book, Mein Kampf, almost to the letter what must be done with Jews. When he came to power, democractically, he set in motion the steps necessary to implement his government`s OFFICIAL plans and even THEN...the Jews have never referred to their six million murdered and innocent people as martyrs...because they don`t have your need to manufacture tragedies..they`ve had them for REAL. None of those Jews were given a choice..no one wanted them to convert..to deny Moses...quite the opposite rather...the Christians went to great lengths to FIND everyone they could...to tailor definitions so they could round up the MOST Jews they could, even down to a thirty-secondth of a Jew to KILL THEM ALL...never to "martyr" them. ...Neither did the Europeans who stole the lands you live on want to convert the indigenous people..they merely killed them outright..and Natives have never claimed to be martyred either...though they were killed in the millions... In fact, the one time I can think of when martyrdom might be applicable is in the Sanctions imposed on the people of Iraq...right up to and including the actual attacks. In the first place the Iraqis were blamed for what the Saudis did...in the second place the Sanctions were put in place by our government..as an "acceptable policy" even though they were told and addmitted the fact quite blithely that 5000 children...of ALL religions, were being killed a month....Madeleine Albright and other OFFICIALS of the United States GOVERNMENT SAID in speech after speech that Sanctions were an OFFICIAL policy INTENDED to bring pressure to bear on parents who were made to watch helplessly while their children died in order to force them to rise up against Saddam...as Saddam was told to change his ways as well...his Baathey ways or else the Sanctions would remain indefinitely and an attack might well be on the way..an attack that cost him and his family their lives as well as everything else.... The Iraqi people were given the CHOICE to continue in their beliefs and patterns and suffer the CONSEQUENCES, including murder, of STATE sanctioned and OFFICIALLY implemented policies INTENDED to cause the greatest harm to the most vulnerable and innocent of all Iraqis...or, they could rise up and go against their own government and nation and people and do as their persecutors and would-be murderers, who were already killing thousands of their children a month ORDERED them to do...or else! And to their everlasting credit, on principle alone..a principle not a Christian of you would understand who sing the praises of Abgar for throwing Ashur away for a Jew who healed him...the people of Iraq..our bold and beautiful and far outnumbered Assyrian people...ALL of them...said FUCK YOU...and to the best of their abilities and with breaking hearts kept their honor and their pride...even as they lost their children and freedom..because they KEPT the essence of what it is to be Assyrian..which is NOT a name..or a name issue..is NOT a religion...is NOT a language...is NOT food or music or dancing...but the same spirit our ancestors had when they chose to go down fighting to the bitter end, prefering to die as Assyrians than live to "survive" sniffing Pisheetas the rest of their days. ...and even the Iraqi people...Ashur bless them, would not call themselves martyrs...but People who would not bend when told to in order to spare themselves. You...on the famous other hand, are a lying passle of Christian born agains who want to win one for Christ and will say whatever you need to in order to get pity out of people and retaliation against Iraq...and we Assyrians, of Iraq and elsewhere NEVER begged for pity... My question is can a person qualify as a martyr when they die of natural causes? Check some of our books and portraits and see for yourself. Someone is using the wrong word or unintentionally blurring the meaning ...be more specific you lout...WHO is changing WHAT meaning? If dying of Sanctions that bring starvation is a "natural" death in your dictionary...then dying of a gunshot wound is merely "death by hole"...and everyone knows assholes are a natural occuring phenomenom...nowhere more so than in your family apparently. In the past as in the future, I am sure that there are, and will be, many men and women that have had and will have an impact on our nation and if old age is the cause then we should have a different designation to honor them. ...you aren`t "honoring" anyone...least of all Assyrians..you are USING the dead ones that serve your Christian Masters..the same ones who`ve used us for centuries to enable THEM to survive...sheep don`t survive for their own sakes but to be sold and slaughtered to line the pockets of their Shephards.
