The Chef's Hat Posted By: Peter BetBasoo <keepa@ninevehsoft.com> (64.217.72.59) Date: Friday, 25 June 2004, at 11:58 p.m. One of the most fascinating pieces of apparel and considered a necessity by mainstream chefs is the toque. The celebrity chef may seem to be a contemporary phenomenon, but such is not the case. Assyrian kings once wore royal headdresses encrusted with gold and precious jewels that stood above the head with ribbed sides. ...Assyrians once were Assyrians praying to an Assyrian god...more important to them than their chefs even. These headdresses were copies of the hats worn by the royal chefs who enjoyed such prestige that special hats were designed to distinguish them from common folks. ...Ashur, our god, was held in pretty high esteem as well. An Assyrian would no more trade in Kipti for a Big Mac than he or she would trade Ashur for a limp jew with fries. However, the chef's hats were constructed of fabric without the embellishment of gold and jewels. In 1950 B.C., the king of Assyria held his chef in such high regard that he ordered him to wear a headpiece similar to his own. Little wonder that the kitchen staff was held in such high regard since they were largely responsible for keeping the monarch alive; safe from those bent on poisoning the king. ..the priests were also held in high regard for they kept the Monarch alive spiritually so the Assyrians could go on to build half of civilization. It is unthinkable that they would throw all that away willingly to run to villages in the mountains, where you and the rest of these loons just happened to come from...to eat fast food. --------------------- |
