In my dictionary I would like a word to mean one thing and not many.

If we look at the Arabic word "Shaheed" it would only fit the number one definition below but only when life is involved. Life is of the greatest value and can not be equated with other great values.

If of their own will then I would call them something else. An example would be a brother offering a kidney to his brother. A person donating his organs to a stranger. “Sacrifice” seems to be the key word.

...no it is not. It is what YOU want to be the key word...so you can come back and tell us you CONSTANTLY SUFFERED and "sacrificed" for Jesus...when Abgar couldn`t abide the toothache for Ashur.

..in any case, "sacrifice" is not the key word, if you fall over and die you "sacrifice" your life...that won`t make a martyr of you...unless you land on Muslim...the key is CHOICE.....you must be presented with a clear way to avoid death or other consequences if you WON`T alter whatever beliefs you are being threatened for...if you`re just put to death for believing them..you aren`t martyred...you are murdered.

...someone has to say to you, "Stop believing in cheese or I will kill you..and that someone can`t be a neighborhood thug or American imported thug...the order has to come from and through a government agency as an express policy...or else every murder victim anywhere would be a martyr and the language would resemble the mess you make of it. No one is trying to take away from the legitimate suffering or crimes committed by insisting that the word martyr must remain true to its purposes...so that when it`s used to designate someone..we know that person went so far as to REFUSE to abandon his or her ways...just to be killed for what you believe when the INTENTION is to just kill you outright...doesn`t make you a martyr.

I can`t figure out why you aren`t content to leave it at "murder victims"...why do you blow it all by showing yourselves to be deceitful? Who do you think DOESN`T know the English language...who could also be of help to you in whatever it is you`re trying to do?

..Only the Muslim Assyrians of Iraq qualify as martyrs...because they were presented with a CLEAR CHOICE by a GOVERNMENT, in this case America...that a POLICY was being put in place to bring great misery to them, the greatest kind of all...starving children to death...UNLESS they agreed to change their beliefs and principled behavior...they had THIRTEEN YEARS to knuckle under and never did...though they tried every honorable way to satisfy you murderous Christians...they wouldn`t abandon their core beliefs..the Assyrianism deep within their souls that would not allow them to abandon their essential integrity to escape death and worse.
