...the United States at the International Olympics.

I never followed these things but is the United States not doing so well in these Olympics? Especially in sports where they've dominated in the past...basketball especially and then some track events. For the first time in 20 years they lost the women's 100 meter dash...and the millionaire plus basketball tean has been described as a Dream Team but looks more like they're going through a nightmare sleepwalking...after hearing how they "overcame" Botswana and showed a "strong game" against Mozambique...but advanced anyway when losing to Lithuania...there still IS a Lithuania? I'm wondering if maybe the older team members feel a little unwelcome...or odd this far away from the comforts of Christian Extremism that blesses their every crime.

I can imagine the perennially prepubescent pixies of the gymnastic squad are sheltered by their own adolescence and the general exuberance that seems to afflict them all...and don't much deal in politics...but the Olympics has Muslim athletes..and athletes usually know these distinctions are useless when your abilitie are on the line...so that to them it makes no sense to be killing fine, healthy young men and women who are good at sports. For what?

I wonder if there is an undercurrent of "Yankee, Fuck off" in the air that might be weighing more heavily than normal on our boys...surely there are enough Darkies and Third World countries who know first hand just what American freedom is worth...when transplanted. How do they react to the sight of the same American flag on uniforms and jerseys that's fluttering over tanks and aircraft carriers they know are murdering innocent people even as they run and jump and play far away in Athens? How many of them know they could be next...that if, god forbid, some unknown reserve of oil, or anything else America wants and wants cheap, is discovered on their lands...that it could be the beginning of a long slow slide into "rogue status"....after several "good faith" attempts were made to force the dictator we put there to see "reason"...after which we have to go "liberate" his "poor people yearning to be dead" as well.

I wonder.
